2. How many people are effected by domestic
violence?
• Domestic abuse: Will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime.
Leads to, on average, two women being murdered each week and 30 men
per year. Accounts for 16% of all violent crime however it is still the violent
crime least likely to be reported.
• one in four lesbian and bi women have experienced domestic abuse in a
relationship. Two thirds of those say the perpetrator was a woman, a third
a man. Almost half (49%) of all gay and bi men have experienced at least
one incident of domestic abuse from a family member or partner since the
age of 16.
• Domestic violence can happen to anyone anywhere most people don’t
realise how many people are involved in domestic violence you don’t have
to be in a relationship for it to happen.
3. • There are many places and people that will help someone that is
involved in domestic violence but most people don’t say anything
because they are scared of the consequences and what might happen
to them.
• Not only do people getting physically hurt from domestic violence but
also emotionally hurt and now someone can get the same prison
sentence as they do for physically domestic violence to emotional
domestic violence.
4. After effects
After being in a domestic violent relationship people may suffer with
knowing what is right and wrong and also may case severe depression.
Domestic violence affects one's thoughts, feelings and behaviours and
can significantly impact one's mental stability. Increased anxiety, post-
traumatic stress disorder and depression symptoms are commonly
observed among survivors of domestic violence. PTSD
