Fast fashion promotes rampant consumerism in teenagers looking for cool clothes to develop their identity while forming community.
As natural resources are both limited and energy intensive to turn into clothing, and as the demand for cheap fashion continues to grow, how can we offer accessible and
sustainable fashion to teenagers in urban areas while also encouraging the growth of creative communities through interdisciplinary education?

3. Plenty of Solutions
Through testing and feedback from
experts and teenagers, we discovered
that an educational initiative combining
science & art in school could develop a
consciousness for slow and sustainable
fashion.
We chose to create an
educational program
including a kit for BioFashion
(batteria growing textile) to be
incorporated into a class on
science, technology and design.
4. Target User: Urban Teenager Community - Paris

6. My PH Bio-Fashion Design Kit
CONTENTS
Introduction to Project, Biology Kit, Design Kit,
Chemistry Kit, Electronics Kit
- my.PH Introduction Pamphlet:
Freaky Fast Fashion Facts, Cutting Edge Trends:
Sustainable Fashion, Project Brief, Table of Contents
- Bacteria Biology Kit:
Organic Contents, Tools, Material Creation Instruction
Book: on brewing, growing and drying the bacteria
7. My PH Bio-Fashion Design Kit
- Smart Materials Chemistry Kit:
Thermochromic crystals, phosphorescent chemical
compounds, materials. Instructions on applying
chemical processes to materials.
- Social Network Electronics Kit:
Electrical wires, geolocator. Instructions on:
wiring, attaching electrical components.
- Hat Design Kit:
Patterns, hat trimming ribbons. Instructions on:
cutting patterns, working with material (fitting it to the
pattern, joining pieces), attaching creative attributes.
8. Biology section :
Working together as a team on these
kits to create their personal piece of
wearable technology, the students
would be taught fundamentals of
biology to develop specific functions
for the hat :
- Growing bacteria to create
organic materials.
- Creating thermochromic and/or
phosphorescent material to
decorate and personalise their
hat.
9. Smart Material Chemistry :
Designing of a hat with thermochromic or
phosphorescent properties makes it
responsive and reactive to the weather and
climate changes.
The students would be shown different
designs from nature, to consider biomimicry
as design principle. Through observation of
nature they be given more ideas on how to
accessorize the hat for original flair.
Accessory Band : Thermochromic or Phosphorescent responsive
10. The Education App
- Unifies all participants who are creating or
have completed my.PH.
Can connect to project progression of your class and other
participating classes, can also ask questions Targeted to
each field : Science, Design, Electronics
- Science Photography Feed
Weekly scoby growth, material drying process, dyeing the
bands, wiring electronics
- Design Photography Feed
Images of cutting patterns, putting together the hat, finished
hats
11. The Social App
- Connected network for hide and seek:
Find their friends by turning on the locators, or
hide by turning on masking.
12. Building a community
The hat is distinctive and
recognisable due to its unique
accessories (material, texture,
band, texture, geo-localisation
SIM …). It can act like a group
signature.
Branding the Art & Science
Movement will encourage pride in
DIY & STEAM education, as well
as the maker movement. It will
also inspire more teenagers to
join, like being part of a cool gang!
14. Feedback
Testimonial
“The My PH workshop, let me discover how to do so many
neat things in science and electronics that I might not have
learned so easily if it wasn’t for wanting to make myself a cool
new hat!”
