*English for Specific Purposes is a branch of study which
focuses on specific English needs of individuals from
various branches of studies.
*ESP for Nursing Students focuses on the English needs of
students from a nursing perspective and the requirement
of English proficiency for their field of job to perform
optimally.

*The aim of this research is to serve as the baseline of the
creation of English syllabus for Nursing Students (ESP for
Nursing Students).

*This research focuses on English for Nursing Students, and
employs these following analysis:
*Present Situation Analysis (which analyzes the current level of
competence of the learners),
*Target Situation Analysis (which analyzes the optimal level of
competence that the learners should possess),
*Subjective Analysis (which gives the opportunity for the learners
to analyze things from their perspective as a student) and last
but not least,
*Deficiency Analysis (which analyzes the current shortcomings of
the learners).
*The four aforementioned analysis methods are proposed by
Lowi in Miyake and Tremarco (2005), and it is further validated
by the academic journals provided (consult the reference
section in the report).

*One Nurse from RS Budi Kemuliaan
The nurse agreed that vocabulary, speaking and listening
should be mandatory to teach for nursing students. He
considers that speaking and listening skills are very necessary
*One English Teacher from SMK Kartini
The English course in SMK Kartini still doesn’t have ESP in each
major, so every major in SMK Kartini will learn the same
material on their English course (still using EGP). writing and
vocabularies skill are used and the teacher also says that his
nursing students are in intermediate level of English, so they at
least have Basic English skill. The teacher also says that the
problems experienced by students are the vocabulary,
grammar, and pronunciation and thinks that speaking skill is
the most important thing to be mastered by nurse.
