Author: Le Corbusier
In this era of globalization, it can be seen that the advancements of technology have impacted and
changed architecture from what it used to be, introducing new automated machinery assistance which
evolved the way things are perceived and done. This leads to the question, architecture or revolution?
Le Corbusier states that the “tools” we had has been entirely and formidably refashioned (p. 271) for
the modern-day use. Although the modern tools in question has greatly assisted in modern fields of
expertise, it has in turn, stunted the opportunity for one to harness their skill and craftsmanship as well as
greatly affecting the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.
This has led to the breaking of the “natural” system where man now rely on modern technology to carry
out the arduous tasks for them. This brings a close upon the passing down of skill from one generation to
the other, losing all sense of specialty and humanization in craftsmanship.
With the rise of these modern technology, Architecture finds itself confronted with new laws (p. 286)
where the old “styles” have been left behind, providing us with a chance to revolutionize the way things
are to suit the changing of time and space. This has provided us with a new way of looking at architecture
with building designs breaking away from the status quo and finding their own identity compared to the
buildings of old which profiles were kept the same.
In conclusion, I think that architecture has greatly been greatly improved which in turn, has improved
the quality of life for man but in a collective state. For a man’s life has been taken apart in sense of family,
time and the loss of humanization within the state of work after the “natural” system has been broken
apart by modern technology. In my opinion, there is still a large gap to fill bringing the human side of things
back to co-exist with the modernization of architecture and work.
