2. Introduction
A Pennsylvania State University graduate, Eva Jeanne Markosky most
recently worked for the Markosky Engineering Group, Inc. as an
engineering assistant. Also a volunteer and participant with various
charities and community organizations, Eva Jeanne Markosky actively
supports the fundraising efforts of buildOn.
Founded in 1989, Jim Ziolkowski started buildOn after he witnessed the
situation of a community in Nepal. Despite experiencing extreme
poverty, people in that village found hope and strength that centered on
education. Today, buildOn involves compassionate students in its quest
to fight poverty and illiteracy through the buildOn Trek project.
BuildOn Trek allows students to immerse themselves in meaningful
service experiences such as global service, leadership and training, and
personal growth opportunities.

3. BuildOn
Global service provides options for students to engage with the culture
and customs of locals in rural areas in some of the world’s poorest
countries. Students can choose to live with host families and physically
help in the construction of a buildOn primary school.
The leadership and learning program aims to build, train, and engage
students through cultural workshops, reflective activities, and
explorations of problems their host community encounters. These
initiatives establish relationships between students and their
community as they work and serve together. Additionally, personal
growth opportunities offer students a deeper knowledge and
understanding of the world and the difference they are making as
agents of change. These experiences go beyond just geography and
circumstance, but extend to realizing the impact of every student’s hard
work, kind heart, and generosity.
