3. ADDITION OF SQUAREs
Recall that addition also means sum.
• E.g 1. simplify 32+22
SOLUTION
32 = 3x3 9
22 = 2x2=4
32 + 22 = 9+4 =13
Ans =13

4. SUBTRACTION OF
SQUARES.NOTE: Subtraction also means minus or difference.
E.g: subtract 32 from 92
Solution
92 =9x9 = 81
32 = 3x3 = 9
81-9 = 72
E.g 2: solve 72-42.
Solution
72= 7x7= 49
42 = 4x4 = 16
49-16 = 33
Ans = 33

5. WORDPROBLEMSONSQUARES
E.G 1: Ngozi is 10 years old today. Find the square of
her age.
Solution:
Since Ngozi’s age is = 10 years
Square of her age (102) = 10 x10 =100
Therefore, the square of Ngozi’s age is 100.
E.g 2: Find the square of the sum of 13 and 8.
Solution:
13+8 = 21
212 = 21 x 21= 441.
Therefore the square of the sum of 13 and 8 is 441.
