The Clarke County Mentor Program is a nonprofit organization that works with all 21 schools in the Clarke County School District. To become a mentor, individuals must be over 18, complete extensive training, and pass a background check. Mentors provide services in schools during times like PE, lunch, or breaks and also offer community mentoring opportunities. Due to COVID-19, the program implemented a successful pen pal program to maintain connections between mentors and mentees when in-person meetings were not possible.

When researching this organization, I was told
and also read that this program is
"underbudgeted, understaffed, and underpaid".
As a mentor, it also can be very difficult to not
get caught up in the personal lives of your
mentees. This program offers services to all
populations and there are many
mentors/mentees that speak languages other
than English involved currently. It has also been
difficult to maintain closeness in relationships in
the new pen pal program.
COVID-19 Update:
There had to be a new program
delivery implemented due to COVID.
They created a pen pal program that
was said to be very successful! It was
difficult to acquire all of the materials
at first but once established, this
program worked great for the mentors
and mentees. It even created an influx
of kids participating.
