Fashion: Renewed order
September 6, 2007
We scrounged through Minneapolis clubs and late-night parties for evidence that '80s/early '90s club style
is back.

Emma Berg
32, director, www.mplsart.com
What are you wearing?
A shirt worn as a dress from local designer Anthem Heart (available at Cliché), copper American Apparel
leggings, Prada shoes and a Miu Miu safety vest.
Describe your personal style:
A sprinkle of mischief, a dash of Warholian art and a dollop of "Mad Max" aspirations.
Why is '80s/early '90s fashion having a renaissance? There is a need to be optimistic about the future.
The color palette and patterns lend themselves to that.

3. vita.mn http://vita.mn/story.php?id=1378054
23, graphic designer
What are you wearing?
A hat from New York Hat Co., thrifted and refurbished glasses, a shirt from Topman, pants from Tripp NYC
and thrifted plimsol canvas shoes.
Where's the best place to go dancing?
Either Honeymoon at the Nomad World Pub or Too Much Love at First Avenue.
Why is '80s/early '90s fashion having a renaissance? The era had a similar socio-political situation as
our own. There is an escapist element to it. Save your clothes/ideas/graphics/drugs: It'll all come back
around.
Johnny Fillman
29, creative director
What are you wearing?
A vampire T-shirt, Creative Recreation shoes, Seven jeans and a homemade bracelet.
Describe your personal style: Iron Range chic.
Where's the best place to go dancing? First Avenue.
Why is '80s/early '90s fashion having a renaissance? It's cyclical. The scary thing is that the cycles are
getting shorter.
Tyra Noir
22, model, production assistant, makeup artist
What are you wearing?
My dress is a shirt by Rebecca Beeson, the belt is vintage, shoes are from Wal-Mart. Hee-hee.
Describe your personal style:
Confident. From L.A. to Minneapolis, I pull things off because I know who I am. Knowing who you are is the
No. 1 thing that gives you mad style.
Why is '80s/early '90s fashion having a renaissance? All of us partying hard now were born in those
eras, and I love how I dressed as a kid. Stretch pants are comfy!
