4. Narrative
Enigma Codes – unanswered questions that acts as a mystery to draw
the audience in
- In this scene one of the enigma codes is that although all the
characters are introduced the audience is not shown where
each of the characters story lines will lead them.
- ‘Tims’ narration of his life at home Is in the past tense
suggesting that perhaps he left and that life may be different
Action Codes – actions that can be predicted, they also keep the narrative
in a particular direction
- The repeated use of ‘was’ suggests that later in the film the characters
will not be the same as they were
Tim is instantly presented as the main character as the scene
begins with his character narrating his home life and his family
through his perspective.
Tim's character is also the
first person we see
implying that he is
important and will appear
throughout the filn
5. Audience
https://youtu.be/_latgzoqoSE
This film is directed towards family and adult genres. All the
characters are adults of some form but with a presented
age of between 23 and 60 years old this allows all age
groups of adult audiences are able to relate to the
characters in one form or another.
- The classical and slow piano soundtrack would
appeal to a slightly older generation as it creates a
very relaxed and easy going impression of the film
- The lack of action in the first scene reduces the
likelihood of a younger audience watching the film as
it has a much slower pace than the films that a
younger generation may be used to
