into Rope
3. EDITING
The editing of rope is quite unique
Hitchcock’s goal was to film rope using one long continuous take to make the film have a
play–like atmosphere and also to make the audience feel more involved in the action .
In 1948 film came in 10 minute rolls so Hitchcock had to compromise and each unedited
scene is 10 minutes long
To todays audience scene changes don’t appear to happen smoothly
Using this technique creates a claustrophobic feeling within the audience as well as making
the audience feel like they are as trapped in the film as the actors.
