Positioning Objects/Characters:
Computers high shows importance, chimp
low shows lack of power. Now we see
chimp strapped down reinforcing lack of
power.
Binary oppositions between the violence,
chaos and lack of control in the videos on
the TV’s, compared to the calm and
controlled environment of the lab.
Another Binary Opposition in this scene is
the contrast between light and dark shots.
The computer screens are bright whereas
the next high, long shot of the lab offers a
contrast to this as it is dark.
Sound: Sound muffled, unclear, soundscape of
general chaos/violence. Multiple news
report sounds amongst violence. Chimp
sounding confused.
Sound is muffled and heavily mixed
showing lots happening at once, languages
show violence globally.
Sound fades and becomes quiet to
reinforce calmness.
Editing: Scene editing dark. Camera pans across the
side of the chimp. Camera zooms away
from screens, shows chimp long shot.
Dark editing draws your eye to the screens
more and the pan across the monitors is to
show how many there are.

Props and Setting: Security camera feed in
corridor.
Costume, Hair and Makeup: Figures in the
background wearing all black clothing and
hats/masks.
Language: N/A
Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone
colours, blurry effect of screens, green/blue
filter.
Positioning Objects/Characters: Camera up
high in the corridor and characters far away,
below it walking towards it.
Props and Setting: Security camera illustrates
some level of protection and the lab is
important so must be protected.
Costume, Hair and Makeup: Dark, black
clothing and masks hides identity of figures
portraying they shouldn't’t be there. Also
showing they are prepared.
Language: N/A
Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone
colours, blurry effect of screens, green/blue
filter. This allows the focus to be on the figures
in the corridor. Additionally, the monotones
show us that it is just a camera feed.
Positioning Objects/Characters: The camera is
up high to get a better field of view and the
figures are below it showing that the camera is
more powerful as it sees everything.
Sound: Limited sound, occasional beeping and the
static buzz of the camera feed.
Limited sound means the focus is only on
characters in the corridor, buzzing and beeping
shows us it is live and happening now.
Editing: Scene editing dark and filtered. Dark editing draws your eye to the characters
more.
Cinematography:
Camera Angles
High angle looking down the corridor. High camera angle denotes power over those
in corridor as camera sees all. Additionally,
gives a more general view of the area so we
aren't sure what the figures are going to do.
Brief

Props and Setting: Security camera illustrates
some level of protection and the lab is important
so must be protected. Can coming over the
camera illustrates they are professionals, don’t
want the cameras to see what they are doing.
Costume, Hair and Makeup: Dark, black clothing

turns the screen black it loses all of tis power.
Brief
Description:
The characters then peer through the class in a door to observe the chimps in
the cages. Then they try and free them from captivity by entering the lab.Scene 7

Language: N/A
Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone
colours, blurry effect of screens, green/blue

Positioning Objects/Characters: Camera at eye
level looking through cage at large double
doors.
Props and Setting: Large double doors with
lock leading to the lab, the lock illustrates they
are not meant to be open.
Costume, Hair and Makeup: Dark, black
clothing and masks hides identity of figures
portraying they shouldn't’t be there. Also
showing they are prepared.
Language: N/A
Lighting and Colour: Light reflects off of the
window frame drawing our eye to the masked
figure peering through it. Colours are dark
around the border of the screen drawing our
focus inwards.
Positioning Objects/Characters: The camera is
at eye level to show greater show the
positioning of the character at the window.
Also the cage the camera looks through
illustrates the cages the chimps are in.
Sound: Loud sounds of rattling cages and the chimps
screaming and shouting.
This illustrates that the chimps are aware of
the intruders presence and are distressed.
They are also frustrated as they want to be free
of the cages.
Editing: Scene editing dark and filtered. Dark editing draws your eye to the characters
more.
Cinematography:
Camera Angles
Eye level/POV shots. The POV shots through the cage show us what
its like to be trapped like the chimps. The eye
level shot simply gives us a clearer view of the
characters looking through the window.

  • 2. Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Lab/Scientific room with monitors and TV screens, medical table/bench. Costume, Hair and Makeup: People in the video have ragged, torn clothes. People are dusty and dirty, some covered in blood. Language: The language isn't specific, universal screaming and shouting. Soundscape of violence. Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone colours, blurry effect of screens. Positioning Objects/Characters: Screens/monitors very close in and get further away. Positioned high in the frame. Chimp low on table. Props and Setting: The lab signifies that what ever is within has importance. Screens showing something important. Costume, Hair and Makeup: All costumes etc. damaged and dirty to illustrate violence and desperation. Language: Universal/multiple languages to show violence everywhere, globally. Lighting and Colour: Dark to draw attention to screens and to illustrate secrecy. Positioning Objects/Characters: Computers high shows importance, chimp low shows lack of power. Binary oppositions between the violence, chaos and lack of control in the videos on the TV’s, compared to the calm and controlled environment of the lab. Sound: Sound muffled, unclear, soundscape of general chaos/violence. Multiple news report sounds amongst violence. Sound is muffled and heavily mixed showing lots happening at once, languages show violence globally. Editing: Scene editing dark. Dark editing draws your eye to the screens more and the pan across the monitors is to show how many there are. Cinematography: Camera Angles Low angle looking up at computer screens. High angles looking down at the chimp. Low angles looking up showing importance and scale, high angles looking down to show lack of power. Scene 1 Brief Description: Videos on computer screens showing, riots, fighting, violence and abuse. A monkey is strapped to a lab table wired to the screens. Computer blurring and mechanical beeping follow.
  • 3. Brief Description: Vast amounts of computers can now be seen as well as louder scientific instruments. The violence on the screen continues.Scene 2 Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Lab/Scientific room with monitors and TV screens, medical table/bench. Equipment on the side. Lab could also be at night. Positioning Objects/Characters: Computers high shows importance, chimp low shows lack of power. Now we see chimp strapped down reinforcing lack of power. Binary oppositions between the violence, chaos and lack of control in the videos on the TV’s, compared to the calm and controlled environment of the lab. Another Binary Opposition in this scene is the contrast between light and dark shots. The computer screens are bright whereas the next high, long shot of the lab offers a contrast to this as it is dark. Sound: Sound muffled, unclear, soundscape of general chaos/violence. Multiple news report sounds amongst violence. Chimp sounding confused. Sound is muffled and heavily mixed showing lots happening at once, languages show violence globally. Sound fades and becomes quiet to reinforce calmness. Editing: Scene editing dark. Camera pans across the side of the chimp. Camera zooms away from screens, shows chimp long shot. Dark editing draws your eye to the screens more and the pan across the monitors is to show how many there are. Cinematography: Camera Angles Low angle looking up at computer screens. High angles looking down at the chimp. Camera panning. Low angles looking up showing importance and scale, high angles looking down to show lack of power.
  • 4. Brief Description: Scene 3 shows us a chimpanzee lying on a medical table with wires and instruments connected to it. We then se the rest of the lab which is dark and full of scientific instruments.Scene 3 Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Lab/Scientific room with monitors and TV screens, medical table/bench. Dark editing draws your eye to the screens more and the pan across the monitors is to show how many there are. Cinematography: Camera Angles Low angle looking up at computer screens. High angles looking down at the chimp. Camera panning. Also we now have over shoulder shot and birds eye view shots of the chimp. Low angles looking up showing importance and scale, high angles looking down to show lack of power. Over shoulder gives almost POV shot, birds eye shows scale of lab.
  • 5. Brief Description: The next clip from the introduction of ‘28 Days Later’ shows another angle of the chimpanzee on the table and more computer screens as the chimp looks around.Scene 4 Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Lab/Scientific room with monitors and TV screens, medical table/bench. Another Binary Opposition in this scene is the contrast between light and dark shots. The computer screens are bright whereas the next high, long shot of the lab offers a contrast to this as it is dark. Binary opposition between being trapped and being free, chimp tied to lab table whereas rest of the lab is vast and open. Sound: Sound muffled/almost silent, unclear, soundscape of general chaos/violence. Multiple news report sounds amongst violence. Loud buzzing and beeping of science equipment. Sound is muffled and heavily mixed showing lots happening at once, languages show violence globally. Sound fades and becomes quiet to reinforce calmness. Beeps reinforce lab scene. Editing: Scene editing dark. Camera pans across the side of the chimp. Dark editing draws your eye to the screens more and the pan across the monitors is to show how many there are. Cinematography: Camera Angles Low angle looking up at computer screens. High angles looking down at the chimp. Camera panning from right to left from eye level of the chimp as it looks directly into the camera. Low angles looking up showing importance and scale, high angles looking down to show lack of power. Camera panning shows the chimp in center frame and blurs the background, focuses on chimp showing its lack of freedom.
  • 6. Brief Description: We then see a security camera/screen showing hooded figures walking down a corridor.Scene 5 Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Security camera feed in corridor. Costume, Hair and Makeup: Figures in the background wearing all black clothing and hats/masks. Language: N/A Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone colours, blurry effect of screens, green/blue filter. Positioning Objects/Characters: Camera up high in the corridor and characters far away, below it walking towards it. Props and Setting: Security camera illustrates some level of protection and the lab is important so must be protected. Costume, Hair and Makeup: Dark, black clothing and masks hides identity of figures portraying they shouldn't’t be there. Also showing they are prepared. Language: N/A Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone colours, blurry effect of screens, green/blue filter. This allows the focus to be on the figures in the corridor. Additionally, the monotones show us that it is just a camera feed. Positioning Objects/Characters: The camera is up high to get a better field of view and the figures are below it showing that the camera is more powerful as it sees everything. Sound: Limited sound, occasional beeping and the static buzz of the camera feed. Limited sound means the focus is only on characters in the corridor, buzzing and beeping shows us it is live and happening now. Editing: Scene editing dark and filtered. Dark editing draws your eye to the characters more. Cinematography: Camera Angles High angle looking down the corridor. High camera angle denotes power over those in corridor as camera sees all. Additionally, gives a more general view of the area so we aren't sure what the figures are going to do.
  • 7. Brief Description: The figures get closer and closer to the camera and then place a cup or can over it to prevent it from recording them.Scene 6 Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Security camera feed in corridor. Tin can/cup. Can coming over the camera illustrates they are professionals, don’t want the cameras to see what they are doing. Additionally, gives a more general view of the area so we aren't sure what the figures are going to do. The high camera angle shows the cameras power but when the can turns the screen black it loses all of tis power.
  • 8. Brief Description: The characters then peer through the class in a door to observe the chimps in the cages. Then they try and free them from captivity by entering the lab.Scene 7 Micro Technique Used: Specific Example From Text: Reference To Macro: Link To Theory: Mise - En – Scene: Criteria: Settings & Props Costume, Hair & Make Up Facial Expressions & Body Language Lighting & Colour Positioning of characters/objects within the frame Props and Setting: Security camera feed in corridor. Large double doors. Costume, Hair and Makeup: Figures in the background wearing all black clothing and hats/masks. Language: N/A Lighting and Colour: Dark and monotone colours, blurry effect of screens, green/blue filter. Positioning Objects/Characters: Camera at eye level looking through cage at large double doors. Props and Setting: Large double doors with lock leading to the lab, the lock illustrates they are not meant to be open. Costume, Hair and Makeup: Dark, black clothing and masks hides identity of figures portraying they shouldn't’t be there. Also showing they are prepared. Language: N/A Lighting and Colour: Light reflects off of the window frame drawing our eye to the masked figure peering through it. Colours are dark around the border of the screen drawing our focus inwards. Positioning Objects/Characters: The camera is at eye level to show greater show the positioning of the character at the window. Also the cage the camera looks through illustrates the cages the chimps are in. Sound: Loud sounds of rattling cages and the chimps screaming and shouting. This illustrates that the chimps are aware of the intruders presence and are distressed. They are also frustrated as they want to be free of the cages. Editing: Scene editing dark and filtered. Dark editing draws your eye to the characters more. Cinematography: Camera Angles Eye level/POV shots. The POV shots through the cage show us what its like to be trapped like the chimps. The eye level shot simply gives us a clearer view of the characters looking through the window.
