High schools success checklist Learning q I set clear academic goals q I have strong literacy, numeracy and communication skills q I am performing to my potential academically q I set aside time to study and review and have up to date study notes Organisation and planning q I plan out for the week ahead q I pack my own bag for school q I do my homework and assignments on time q I use my phone [and social media] appropriately Mindsets q I take responsibility for my own learning (ownership mindset) q work until I achieve outcomes rather than for a set amount of time (mastery mindset) q I understand that people aren’t born knowing everything and they get better by practicing (growth mindset) q I am prepared to take risks and am comfortable with failure (entrepreneurial mindset)

These children • Are dependable • Are accountable • Accept credit when due or acknowledge mistakes • Set expectations • Allow children to ‘practice’ taking responsibility • Avoid bailing children out • Set and follow through with consequences • Avoid helicoptering

Entrepreneurial mindset Details What you can do The belief that • All decisions in life involve some levels of risk; • Without taking some risk you will not achieve anything worthwhile; • Failure is a necessary part of try and getting better • Be comfortable with your children failing (in a safe way) • Encourage children to move outside their comfort zones • Praise children for trying, especially when they fail
