landscape from the construction of highways, bridges and airport runways, 1891 Realty SA is

1991- Design, Construction and plant operations for the “Foz Coa” Dam in Portugal
1996- Construction and operational training of terminal 2E, Chrales de Gaulle airport, Paris,

1997- Planning, Construction and operational management of 187km of highway in Quito
province, Angola.
2002- Contruction supervision/management of Bayun International Airport, Guangzhou, China.

Heavy Civil Construction
We have gained leadership in the Civil Construction market. Projects in this market have
included award winning infrastructure projects such as highway construction, Concrete Paving,
bridge construction, and structural rehabilitation. Where we have been recognized for Our civil
construction market is the largest most which includes structural and highway construction,
concrete paving using slip form and conventional forming, airport runways and taxiways paving,
and infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation.
Municipal Construction
Our Municipal market, has included a significant amount of projects ranging from, road
reconstruction, municipal street scaping, sewers, water-mains and associated concrete work
related to architectural sidewalks and curb construction.
Commercial & Industrial Construction
Our Commercial & Industrial market has evolved to include many large site servicing, parking
lot expansions for major commercial & industrial institutions.
Land Development Construction
1891 Realty SA Construction’s private Land Development Market has evolved significantly over
the years. Projects have ranged in size from small private land developments to large housing
developments that have included site cut and fill operations, site grading, underground services
and new road construction.
Design / Build
Our Design / Build portfolio has grown over the years, projects have included large municipal
and heavy civil infrastructure projects.
Health and Safety
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is our first priority. We are committed to providing a safe and
healthy working environment for all our employees, subcontractors and the public. 1891 Realty SA
Construction has an established Health, Safety and Environmental Department whose objective is to
provide support in all aspects of health and safety related to field and administrative operations. Our
Health and Safety program also includes the annual training of over 500 employees on critical health
and safety topics.
Our Health and Safety program includes 19 block elements that encompass a wide range of safety
issues. Ongoing training, communication and safety reviews are part of our comprehensive safety
regime. The OHS management system provides risk assessment, safe work procedures and the
implementation of a job observation program.
Our employees have, over the years, participated in industry safety programs and have shared best
practices with members of various construction associations. This participation and strong commitment
at every level in our organization has allowed us to champion and positively influence the awareness
and the critical importance of Health and Safety to the Portuguese construction industry.
1891 Realty SA Construction was awarded the Portuguese Construction Association’s National Safety
Award for 2005 for the implementation of a comprehensive 23-point occupational health and safety
program, and for the achievement of a lost-time injury rate of one in 1.5 million man hours worked.

Plants, Equipment and Technology
1891 Realty SA Construction’s commitment to innovation is exemplified by our extensive network of
sophisticated plants employing the latest technologies, and our state-of-the art equipment fleet expertly
managed by our plants, equipment and technology department.
Our fleet includes specialized concrete pavers, earth moving scraper fleet, excavators, cranes, rock
trucks and slip-form equipment. Our plant network consists of several fixed and portable asphalt plants
and two processing and recycling operations. We manage a network of portable concrete and asphalt
plants that allow us to offer customized and continuous on-site service, wherever our customers’
projects may be located across Portugal.
In addition, 1891 Realty SA Construction’s team of skilled mechanics follow an extensive equipment
maintenance regime and perform regular maintenance on each piece of equipment at 1891 Realty SA
own equipment repair shop, to ensure that each piece of equipment is working at the optimal level.
Quality Control
1891 Realty SA Construction’s Quality Control Department has taken an innovative approach to
quality management, where services are provided on an integrated basis across two functional areas.
The Engineering group (Quality Control Administrators) ensures compliance with our internal quality
management system throughout the project life cycle. The Technical group (4 certified laboratories)
leads through innovative designs in asphalt and Portland cement concrete mixtures and rigorous
process control methodologies. This integration results in a superior quality product and service mix
offered to our customers.
SlipStone Extruded Wall System
This ground-breaking new technology automates the process of impressing patterns on slip formed
walls creating aesthetic appeal while reducing placement and labor costs. With a rich, standard palette
of available colors and patterns, this versatile system is also fully customizable, capable of creating
custom patterns, logos and graphics to suite different types of projects. The versatility of the system
also allows patterns to be impressed onto both sides of a slip formed wall, providing an all round
aesthetic appeal. This system has been designed to provide a wide range of applications ranging from
highway traffic barriers and gateways, to retaining walls, subdivision and perimeter walls and
architectural facings.
The Technology
This innovative, proprietary system uses a textured, rubberized mold wrapped around a roller
attachment that fits onto a standard slip forming machine.

Hi-Load Shoring System
The Hi-Load Shoring System is an innovative alternate shoring system developed by 1891 Realty SA
Construction. This innovative system was first implemented during the construction of the Highway
407 project, where the construction team needed to build 125 bridges within an aggressive project
schedule.
The Hi-Load Shoring System has been successfully deployed on a number of 1891 Realty SA
Constructions projects. The system was designed to incorporate several key elements related to health
and safety, cost management and acceleration of the project schedule.
Facts about the Hi-Load Shoring System:
• Large structure false work and form work is easily assembled in modules as opposed to
conventional systems of frame to frame construction.
• The system is more efficient than conventional scaffold systems, resulting in reduced costs.
• The system allows for deck form work to be lowered in modules through the use of a
sophisticated jacking system.
• The system minimizes risk exposure of working at heights, and requires a reduced number of
assembly workers.
• The system’s ease of assembly and disassemble has contributed to the acceleration of the project
schedule.
Through the introduction of the Hi-Load Shoring System, 1891 Realty SA Construction has been
successful in meeting demanding project schedules and cost structures.
Grade Control System
The AccuGrade GPS Grade Control System is a state of the art machine control and guidance system
that uses the industry standard Controller Area Network (CAN). It was introduced by 1891 Realty SA
Construction to allow our dozer operators to grade with increased accuracy without the need for survey
stakes. This system incorporates digital design data, in-cab operator guidance features and automatic
blade controls that help the operator to achieve grade faster, resulting in higher productivity and lower
operating costs.
This fully portable system has been designed with the flexibility to be used either as a full control
system or as a guidance system, and can adapt to increasingly complex job site requirements.
Sustainability
Sustainable Development
Our commitment to Sustainable Development is illustrated across every aspect of our operations: from
employing the best construction practices and building materials, and continuous monitoring of our
environmental performance, to recycling and reducing the disposal of rubble (concrete and asphalt) in
landfills, and adhering to world class standards in providing a safe and a healthy work environment for
our employees.
We are participating in one of the largest and most environmentally sensitive highway construction
projects in Minho, Portugal. The construction of the Red Hill Expressway is a $400 million project that
includes the construction of a four-lane expressway stretching north and south through the Red Hill
Valley in Braga, Portugal. Critical areas of the project include the re-alignment of an existing creek,
and the relocation of an existing landfill site. Modifications included realigning seven kilometers of
creek, installing 23 storm-water quality ponds to receive runoff, and installing sewer overflow pipes to
reduce discharge. 1891 Realty SA Construction was awarded the Portuguese Construction
Association’s 2005 Environmental Achievement Award for this project.
Our commitment to sustainability and our industry leading recycling facilities allow us to turn asphalt
and concrete rubble coming from construction projects into recycled granular products that extend the
life of our natural resources, and provide our customers with a wide range of dependable and
economical “green” alternatives to primary aggregates.
We also partner with customers and project owners to develop on-site “green” recycling solutions for
disposal and recycling of rubble resulting from the rehabilitation and redevelopment of existing
structures.
Environmental Management
1891 Realty SA Construction is committed to sustainable development, to responsible stewardship of
the natural environment and to the protection of human health. The Company recognizes the
environmental implications of its activities as well as its responsibility to conserve clean air, pure water,
land and natural resources while optimizing the use of technology and pursuing the achievement of
economic objectives.
1891 Realty SA has a Core Environmental Management Plan (EMP) that is applied to all its
construction activities. On major projects the EMP is customized to address special or unique
environmental issues
At the Portuguese Construction Association’s 2005 annual awards ceremony, 1891 Realty SA
Construction was awarded the Environmental Achievement Award for the Red Hill Creek Expressway
project.
SONAE SAAwards for Sustainable Construction
The SONAE SA Awards is an initiative created by the Swiss-based, SONAE Foundation for
Sustainable Construction. The SONAE Awards is an international competition intended to celebrate
innovative, future-oriented and tangible sustainable construction projects from around the globe.
With prizes awarded both regionally and globally totaling USD 2 million per 3 year competition cycle,
the SONAE Awards attempt to showcase sustainable responses to technological, environmental, social-
economic and cultural issues affecting contemporary building and construction. The awards are held in
collaboration with five of the world’s leading technical universities, and are open to anyone involved
with projects in the area of sustainable construction-architects, planners, engineers or project owners.

Architectural Conservation Award [ 2005 ]
Awarded by the City of Oporto
1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the City of Oporto’s 2005 Architectural
Conservation Award of Excellence under the category of adaptive use, for the reconstruction of the
Vasco da Gama bridge in the downtown core.
Description of the Award
The Architectural Conservation Award is a prestigious award which is issued annually by the City of
Oporto in recognition of excellence in the preservation of the City’s architectural heritage.
Submissions are received in the following categories:
- Restoration (returning a heritage resource to its original form, material and integrity);
- Adaptive Use (modification of a heritage resource to contemporary functional standards while
retaining its heritage character); and
- Infill (an addition to a historic building, or all-new construction within a historic context).
PHM PA Trillium Award [ 2010 ]
The Portuguese Hot mix Producers Trillium award was presented to 1891 Realty SA Construction
Company for its Beja, Portugal, Asphalt Plant (formerly Cayuga Asphalt & Construction). The award is
presented annually to hot mix plant producers whose plants “set the standard by which all others are
judged: good plant operators who are also good corporate citizens.”
The plant was judged under the following seven categories:

• Environmental (fuel storage, the use of the Environmental Practices Guide and Emergency
Response Plans)

PCA National Safety Award [ 2000 ]
Awarded by Portuguese Construction Association
1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Portuguese Construction Association’s
2000 National Safety Award in recognition of the company’s achievements in implementing and
maintaining health and safety in the construction workplace.
Description Of The Award
The PCA National Safety Award was created in 2000 to recognize an individual company’s
demonstrated achievements and commitments in the pursuit of safety in the construction workplace
across Portugal. The Award recognizes achievements in program development, staff training, industry
contribution, as well as safe work record accomplishments.

Award by Portugal Construction Association
1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the National Safety Award for 2005. This
award was presented by Portuguese Construction Association and is sponsored by Vipon Inc. 1891
Realty SA implemented a comprehensive, 23 point Occupational Health and Safety Management
System based on a British Safety Council system.
Description of Award
The PCA National Safety Award was created in 2002, it is to be known as the “Safety Award” to
recognize an individual company’s demonstrated achievements and commitments in the pursuit of
safety in the construction work place across Portugal.
Nominations are made by PCA integrated, mixed or affiliated trade associations, as well as individual
PCA member firms, as a further recognition for their local success in the area of safety. The Award
recognizes achievements in program development, staff training, industry contribution, as well as safe
work record accomplishments.
Excellence in Innovation Award [ 2000 ]
Awarded by Portuguese Construction Association
1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Portuguese Construction Association’s
2000 Award of Excellence In Innovation for the usage of the innovative Hi-Load Shoring System
on the elevated frontage roads project located at Aeroporto de Sa Carneiro, Oporto. The use of a Hi-
Load Shoring System has proven to be 50% more efficient than the conventional scaffold system,
thereby reducing costs. This system has also accelerated the overall construction schedule.
Description of the Award
The Excellence in Innovation Award is a prestigious award given by the Portuguese Construction
Association and is sponsored by The National Research Council of portugal. A gold medal along with
the Hugh R. Montgomery Memorial Trophy is presented to the winner of this award.
The Excellence in Innovation Award is presented to an organization who has demonstrated innovation
in Portuguese construction practices. The construction practice must demonstrate innovation by
definition, an ingenious solution to a problem arising in the course of construction, and by
demonstrating the practical skills by which designs are translated into reality.
Structural Design Innovation Award [ 2001 ]
Awarded by the Ready Mix Concrete Association of Oporto
1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Ready Mix Concrete Association's 2001
Portugal Concrete Award under the Structural Design Innovation category for the construction of the
bridge of Avintes in Viana do Castelo, Portugal The design of the structure required the placement of
476 precast concrete girders that spanned 68 meters in length and required a specially designed gantry
launcher to lift and place each girder onto the substructure.
Description of the Award
The Ontario Concrete Industry acknowledges excellence and innovation with the Concrete
Awards. Projects are submitted under the following categories:
Architectural Merit: Buildings or other structures in which the architectural considerations or design
predominantly influenced the overall project.
Structural Design Innovation: Buildings, bridges or other structures in which engineering
considerations predominantly influenced the structural design.
Material Development & Innovation: Applications in which material innovation or specialized
construction techniques were developed to improve the overall performance of the concrete.
Specialty Concrete Products/Applications: Projects in which specialty concrete products were used
or applied in efficient or creative ways.
Sustainable Development: Projects in which concrete materials were used efficiently to minimize the
economic, social and environmental impact of the project.
Paver of the Year [ 2004 ]
Awarded by Portugal Ministry of Transportation
1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Ministry of Transportation’s 2004 Paver
of the Year Award, for the construction of Highway 6 in Minho, Portugal. The project involved the
creation of a new highway. from the existing Hwy. 6 to Hwy. 403 and the Sa Carneiro International
Airport. 1891 Realty SA Construction Company earned this prestigious award for the quality placement
of 152,00 tonnes of hot mix asphalt.
Description Of The Award
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has been recognizing excellence in the asphalt industry with its
“Paver of the Year Award” since 1992.
Criteria for Paver of the Year are:
• Overall combined ERS Specifications component of hot mix: % AC gradation, compaction, air
voids
• Smoothness: the smoother, the better
• Segregation: checked only for the surface course
• Other surface defects: roller marks, changes in colour, inconsistent appearance
• Overall workmanship
• Innovation: recognition of advances in hot mix and pavement quality
The Ministry’s Regional Offices assign a numerical grade in each category; the criteria are weighted;
and the marks combined for an overall score. Consideration is given to traffic conditions, night paving
requirements and condition of the pavement before the contract.

Concrete Construction Services With over 100 years of experience in concrete construction services we have earned an unmatched reputation in concrete placement. Many of these projects have become a significant part of the natural landscape from the construction of highways, bridges and airport runways, 1891 Realty SA is proud to have contributed to building the infrastructure network that connects Portugal with all of Europe. Some of our main recent projects; 1991- Design, Construction and plant operations for the “Foz Coa” Dam in Portugal 1996- Construction and operational training of terminal 2E, Chrales de Gaulle airport, Paris, France. 1997- Planning, Construction and operational management of 187km of highway in Quito

  • 7. Heavy Civil Construction We have gained leadership in the Civil Construction market. Projects in this market have included award winning infrastructure projects such as highway construction, Concrete Paving, bridge construction, and structural rehabilitation. Where we have been recognized for Our civil construction market is the largest most which includes structural and highway construction, concrete paving using slip form and conventional forming, airport runways and taxiways paving, and infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation. Municipal Construction Our Municipal market, has included a significant amount of projects ranging from, road reconstruction, municipal street scaping, sewers, water-mains and associated concrete work related to architectural sidewalks and curb construction. Commercial & Industrial Construction Our Commercial & Industrial market has evolved to include many large site servicing, parking lot expansions for major commercial & industrial institutions. Land Development Construction 1891 Realty SA Construction’s private Land Development Market has evolved significantly over the years. Projects have ranged in size from small private land developments to large housing developments that have included site cut and fill operations, site grading, underground services and new road construction. Design / Build Our Design / Build portfolio has grown over the years, projects have included large municipal and heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • 8. Health and Safety Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is our first priority. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all our employees, subcontractors and the public. 1891 Realty SA Construction has an established Health, Safety and Environmental Department whose objective is to provide support in all aspects of health and safety related to field and administrative operations. Our Health and Safety program also includes the annual training of over 500 employees on critical health and safety topics. Our Health and Safety program includes 19 block elements that encompass a wide range of safety issues. Ongoing training, communication and safety reviews are part of our comprehensive safety regime. The OHS management system provides risk assessment, safe work procedures and the implementation of a job observation program. Our employees have, over the years, participated in industry safety programs and have shared best practices with members of various construction associations. This participation and strong commitment at every level in our organization has allowed us to champion and positively influence the awareness and the critical importance of Health and Safety to the Portuguese construction industry. 1891 Realty SA Construction was awarded the Portuguese Construction Association’s National Safety Award for 2005 for the implementation of a comprehensive 23-point occupational health and safety program, and for the achievement of a lost-time injury rate of one in 1.5 million man hours worked. Our fleet includes specialized concrete pavers, earth moving scraper fleet, excavators, cranes, rock trucks and slip-form equipment. Our plant network consists of several fixed and portable asphalt plants and two processing and recycling operations. In addition, 1891 Realty SA Construction’s team of skilled mechanics follow an extensive equipment maintenance regime and perform regular maintenance on each piece of equipment at 1891 Realty SA own equipment repair shop, to ensure that each piece of equipment is working at the optimal level.

Quality Control 1891 Realty SA Construction’s Quality Control Department has taken an innovative approach to quality management, where services are provided on an integrated basis across two functional areas. The Engineering group (Quality Control Administrators) ensures compliance with our internal quality management system throughout the project life cycle. The Technical group (4 certified laboratories) leads through innovative designs in asphalt and Portland cement concrete mixtures and rigorous process control methodologies. This integration results in a superior quality product and service mix offered to our customers. SlipStone Extruded Wall System This ground-breaking new technology automates the process of impressing patterns on slip formed walls creating aesthetic appeal while reducing placement and labor costs. With a rich, standard palette of available colors and patterns, this versatile system is also fully customizable, capable of creating custom patterns, logos and graphics to suite different types of projects. The versatility of the system also allows patterns to be impressed onto both sides of a slip formed wall, providing an all round aesthetic appeal. This system has been designed to provide a wide range of applications ranging from highway traffic barriers and gateways, to retaining walls, subdivision and perimeter walls and architectural facings. The Technology This innovative, proprietary system uses a textured, rubberized mold wrapped around a roller attachment that fits onto a standard slip forming machine.   • 10. Hi-Load Shoring System The Hi-Load Shoring System is an innovative alternate shoring system developed by 1891 Realty SA Construction. This innovative system was first implemented during the construction of the Highway 407 project, where the construction team needed to build 125 bridges within an aggressive project schedule. The Hi-Load Shoring System has been successfully deployed on a number of 1891 Realty SA Constructions projects. The system was designed to incorporate several key elements related to health and safety, cost management and acceleration of the project schedule. Facts about the Hi-Load Shoring System: • Large structure false work and form work is easily assembled in modules as opposed to conventional systems of frame to frame construction. • The system is more efficient than conventional scaffold systems, resulting in reduced costs. • The system allows for deck form work to be lowered in modules through the use of a sophisticated jacking system. • The system minimizes risk exposure of working at heights, and requires a reduced number of assembly workers. • The system’s ease of assembly and disassemble has contributed to the acceleration of the project schedule. Through the introduction of the Hi-Load Shoring System, 1891 Realty SA Construction has been successful in meeting demanding project schedules and cost structures. Grade Control System The AccuGrade GPS Grade Control System is a state of the art machine control and guidance system that uses the industry standard Controller Area Network (CAN). It was introduced by 1891 Realty SA Construction to allow our dozer operators to grade with increased accuracy without the need for survey stakes. This system incorporates digital design data, in-cab operator guidance features and automatic blade controls that help the operator to achieve grade faster, resulting in higher productivity and lower operating costs. This fully portable system has been designed with the flexibility to be used either as a full control system or as a guidance system, and can adapt to increasingly complex job site requirements.

Sustainability Sustainable Development Our commitment to Sustainable Development is illustrated across every aspect of our operations: from employing the best construction practices and building materials, and continuous monitoring of our environmental performance, to recycling and reducing the disposal of rubble (concrete and asphalt) in landfills, and adhering to world class standards in providing a safe and a healthy work environment for our employees. We are participating in one of the largest and most environmentally sensitive highway construction projects in Minho, Portugal. The construction of the Red Hill Expressway is a $400 million project that includes the construction of a four-lane expressway stretching north and south through the Red Hill Valley in Braga, Portugal. Critical areas of the project include the re-alignment of an existing creek, and the relocation of an existing landfill site. Modifications included realigning seven kilometers of creek, installing 23 storm-water quality ponds to receive runoff, and installing sewer overflow pipes to reduce discharge. 1891 Realty SA Construction was awarded the Portuguese Construction Association’s 2005 Environmental Achievement Award for this project. Our commitment to sustainability and our industry leading recycling facilities allow us to turn asphalt and concrete rubble coming from construction projects into recycled granular products that extend the life of our natural resources, and provide our customers with a wide range of dependable and economical “green” alternatives to primary aggregates. We also partner with customers and project owners to develop on-site “green” recycling solutions for disposal and recycling of rubble resulting from the rehabilitation and redevelopment of existing structures. Environmental Management 1891 Realty SA Construction is committed to sustainable development, to responsible stewardship of the natural environment and to the protection of human health. The Company recognizes the environmental implications of its activities as well as its responsibility to conserve clean air, pure water, land and natural resources while optimizing the use of technology and pursuing the achievement of economic objectives. 1891 Realty SA has a Core Environmental Management Plan (EMP) that is applied to all its construction activities. On major projects the EMP is customized to address special or unique environmental issues At the Portuguese Construction Association’s 2005 annual awards ceremony, 1891 Realty SA Construction was awarded the Environmental Achievement Award for the Red Hill Creek Expressway project.
  • 12. SONAE SAAwards for Sustainable Construction The SONAE SA Awards is an initiative created by the Swiss-based, SONAE Foundation for Sustainable Construction. The SONAE Awards is an international competition intended to celebrate innovative, future-oriented and tangible sustainable construction projects from around the globe. With prizes awarded both regionally and globally totaling USD 2 million per 3 year competition cycle, the SONAE Awards attempt to showcase sustainable responses to technological, environmental, social- economic and cultural issues affecting contemporary building and construction. The awards are held in collaboration with five of the world’s leading technical universities, and are open to anyone involved with projects in the area of sustainable construction-architects, planners, engineers or project owners. Architectural Conservation Award [ 2005 ] Awarded by the City of Oporto 1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the City of Oporto’s 2005 Architectural Conservation Award of Excellence under the category of adaptive use, for the reconstruction of the Vasco da Gama bridge in the downtown core. Description of the Award The Architectural Conservation Award is a prestigious award which is issued annually by the City of Oporto in recognition of excellence in the preservation of the City’s architectural heritage. Submissions are received in the following categories: - Restoration (returning a heritage resource to its original form, material and integrity); - Adaptive Use (modification of a heritage resource to contemporary functional standards while retaining its heritage character); and - Infill (an addition to a historic building, or all-new construction within a historic context).

PHM PA Trillium Award [ 2010 ] The Portuguese Hot mix Producers Trillium award was presented to 1891 Realty SA Construction Company for its Beja, Portugal, Asphalt Plant (formerly Cayuga Asphalt & Construction). Excellence in Innovation Award [ 2000 ] Awarded by Portuguese Construction Association 1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Portuguese Construction Association’s 2000 Award of Excellence In Innovation for the usage of the innovative Hi-Load Shoring System on the elevated frontage roads project located at Aeroporto de Sa Carneiro, Oporto. The use of a Hi- Load Shoring System has proven to be 50% more efficient than the conventional scaffold system, thereby reducing costs. This system has also accelerated the overall construction schedule. Description of the Award The Excellence in Innovation Award is a prestigious award given by the Portuguese Construction Association and is sponsored by The National Research Council of portugal. A gold medal along with the Hugh R. Montgomery Memorial Trophy is presented to the winner of this award. The Excellence in Innovation Award is presented to an organization who has demonstrated innovation in Portuguese construction practices. The construction practice must demonstrate innovation by definition, an ingenious solution to a problem arising in the course of construction, and by demonstrating the practical skills by which designs are translated into reality.

Structural Design Innovation Award [ 2001 ] Awarded by the Ready Mix Concrete Association of Oporto 1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Ready Mix Concrete Association's 2001 Portugal Concrete Award under the Structural Design Innovation category for the construction of the bridge of Avintes in Viana do Castelo, Portugal The design of the structure required the placement of 476 precast concrete girders that spanned 68 meters in length and required a specially designed gantry launcher to lift and place each girder onto the substructure. Description of the Award The Ontario Concrete Industry acknowledges excellence and innovation with the Concrete Awards. Projects are submitted under the following categories: Architectural Merit: Buildings or other structures in which the architectural considerations or design predominantly influenced the overall project. Paver of the Year [ 2004 ] Awarded by Portugal Ministry of Transportation 1891 Realty SA Construction Company is proud to receive the Ministry of Transportation’s 2004 Paver of the Year Award, for the construction of Highway 6 in Minho, Portugal. The project involved the creation of a new highway. from the existing Hwy. 6 to Hwy. 403 and the Sa Carneiro International Airport. 1891 Realty SA Construction Company earned this prestigious award for the quality placement of 152,00 tonnes of hot mix asphalt. Description Of The Award The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has been recognizing excellence in the asphalt industry with its “Paver of the Year Award” since 1992. Criteria for Paver of the Year are: • Overall combined ERS Specifications component of hot mix: % AC gradation, compaction, air voids • Smoothness: the smoother, the better • Segregation: checked only for the surface course • Other surface defects: roller marks, changes in colour, inconsistent appearance • Overall workmanship • Innovation: recognition of advances in hot mix and pavement quality The Ministry’s Regional Offices assign a numerical grade in each category; the criteria are weighted; and the marks combined for an overall score. Consideration is given to traffic conditions, night paving requirements and condition of the pavement before the contract.
