KOALA
INTRODUCTION
Thecase studyI embarkedonwasa5 bedroomhouse with
few other amenities suchasaswimmingpooland large
backgarden. Other gameroomsandfamily roomswere a
part asidethe manybedroomswithin the household.
The housecontained 3 general bedrooms, withone guest
bedroomseperated fromthe others andthen the master
bedroomwhichwasalsoseperated yet of a muchlargersize
comparedto the rest
SITE & CONTEXT
Thebuildingissituated inarather developed part of ghana.
Roadsto andfromthe site, includingthe access roadswere
all tarred andguttered. Furthermore, there islittleto no
noiseintermsof the neighbourhood.
Fairly safe to saythe least, there isusualpatrol from
security comopaniesandsoon.
OBSERVATIONS
Due to the east- westorientationof the building, the
spaces were quitehot andlacked ventilation. Rooms
ingeneralwere groupedwelltogether and were a
reasonable distance fromoneanother.
All private spaces, bedroomsincluded rsidedon the
upperfloor.
Noticeably the houseutilized alot of artificial
ventilation dueto itseast westorientation.
Thebuildingtakes upa lotofthe siteand
therefore lacksspace fprgreenery.
Thereisalackof treesonthe site, hencethere wa no
natural shadingorvegetation to improve daylighting
andthe amount of ventilation.

OrganicArchitecture
Organicarchitecture isnot astyle of imitation, Organic
architecture isa reinterpretation of nature’sprinciples
asthey hadbeen filtered throughthe intelligent minds
of menandwomen whocouldthenbuildformswhich
are morenatural thannature itself.
Organice architecture respects the properties of natural
materials,aswellasrespects the relationship between
the form/designof abuildingandit’sfunction.
Organicarchitecture tries to intergrate the spaces into
acoherent whole, unionbetween the site and
structure andharmonybetween the context and
structure.
Principlesof organic
architecture
The beliefthat abuildingshouldappearto

Choosingonedominantformforabuildingand
integrating that formthroughout
Usingnatural colors: “Go into the woodsand

Revealing the nature of materials

Predominantly inmusiciswherewe notice rhythm
the most.Although rhythm inmusicis important, it is
