6. After the defeat, the moral of the Dutch team had sunk to an all time
low. The management of the Dutch company decided that they had to
win next year. To achieve this they appointed a project team that had to
investigate the problems.

8. After a lot of research the project team discovered that in the
Japanese team 7 people were rowing and one person was giving the
instructions.....

12. In this crisis situation the management of the Dutch company showed a
clear example of their leadership skills. They contracted a management
consultancy to investigate the work structure of the Dutch canoe team.

14. After many months of hard work the experts came
to the conclusion that too many people were giving
instructions and not enough people were rowing.
With the help of the report the mangement
decided to change the structure of the canoe
team.
15. The changes were that only 4 people were going to give
instructions, two were going to provide governance and one
was going to provide vision and give directions. In addition to
this the management invented a program to motivate the
person that was elected to row: “We need to increase his
sphere of influence and give him more responsibilities”.

two miles to spare!
19. The Dutch comapny fired the rower immediately due to his
unaccepable low performance,
20. Despite this the governance team received a large
bonus for their dedication to the canoe team.
21. The mangement consultancy made a new
analisys and came to the conclusion that
the correct tactics were followed, but
that the equipment needs improvement.
The Dutch company is currently
designing a new canoe.
