2. Big Idea
Now concerning spiritual gifts,
brethren, I do not want you to
be ignorant:
1 Corinthians 12:1 (NKJV) 2
3. 1 Corinthians 12:8–10 (NKJV)
for to one is given the word of wisdom
through the Spirit, to another the word
of knowledge through the same Spirit, to
another faith by the same Spirit, to
another gifts of healings by the same
Spirit, to another the working of miracles,

4. 1 Corinthians 12:8–10 (NKJV)
to another prophecy, to another
discerning of spirits, to another different
kinds of tongues, to another the
interpretation of tongues.

5. We don’t understand everything!
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NKJV) For
now we see in a mirror, dimly,
but then face to face. Now I
know in part, but then I shall
know just as I also am known.

6. Balance
1 Corinthians 12:11…But one and the same Spirit
works all these things, distributing to each one
individually as He wills.

8. Introduction to spiritual gifts
1 Corinthians 12:1–7 (NKJV)…Now
concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not
want you to be ignorant: You know that you
were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb
idols, however you were led. Therefore I
make known to you that no one speaking by

the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no
one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the

diversities of activities, but it is the same God

3. What is to be our overriding motive for
wanting to be used in any manifestation of the
Spirit?
4. What is the meaning of manifestation?

12. Quick Review
5. What’s the major difference in the nature of
these manifestations and the gifts listed in
Romans 12 and Ephesians 4?

13. Being More Fully Informed
Spirit- Giver of Gifts
Son- Giver of Ministries
Father- Power in both

14. Being More Fully Informed
Spirit gives Gifts
(Charisma)
Spirit gives Manifestations
(Phanerosis)

15. What makes us eligible for a manifestation?
1 Corinthians 12:13 (NKJV)…For by one
Spirit we were all baptized into one
body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether
slaves or free—and have all been made
to drink into one Spirit.
15
16. Take these two in tandem
1 Corinthians 12:7…But the manifestation of the
Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
1 Corinthians 14:12…Even so you, since you are
zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the
edification of the church that you seek to excel.

17. What is unique about Tongues?
1 Corinthians 14:4a
(NKJV)…He who speaks in a
tongue edifies himself…

These 9 specific Holy Spirit manifestations
(“flashes, disclosures, immediate movings,
spontaneously granted aids to effective ministry”)
are made available to every believer to effectively
carry out kingdom ministry. No one individual will
be able to get the entire job done; no one
individual will manifest all the gifts. We else

need each other and we need all the diverse gifts.
Together they aid in giving instruction (“word of
wisdom, word of knowledge”), in ministering to
people’s needs (“faith, gifts of healings, working
of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits”) and
in worshiping God (“different kinds of tongues,
the interpretation of tongues”). They are not

“resident” gifts like the Romans 12 and Ephesians
4 gifts, but rather spontaneously granted tools
given as the need arises and the Spirit
determines. Our concern should always be the
release of the gift most needed to meet the
needs of individuals or groups of individuals, even
if that manifestation flows through someone else.
21
22. The Kingdom of God and the Gifts
“The Kingdom of God” was Jesus’ central
message and the focus of His ministry. “Kingdom”
is more accurately “reign” or “royal rule.” It refers
to the rulership of God in our lives and
circumstances, rulership afforded us through a
personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We’re
dealing with “God’s sovereign rule and the entry

of the Messiah, which means an end to the rule
of death and deadening human systems …. [It] is a
spiritual reality that is in one’s life, over one’s
affairs, and expressed through one’s life, love, and
service.”
23
24. Jesus’ Kingdom Message
Luke 4:17–21 (NKJV) [Jesus read]“The Spirit
of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has
anointed Me To preach the gospel to the
poor; He has sent Me to heal the
brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the
captives And recovery of sight to the blind,

25. Jesus’ Kingdom Message
To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To
proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
Then He closed the book, and gave it back to
the attendant and sat down….And He began
to say to them, “Today this Scripture is
fulfilled in your hearing.”

1. Who made possible this ministry in
Jesus’ life?
2. How did He do it?
3. What six things was Jesus to
do/proclaim as a result of this Holy
Spirit anointing?
26
27. Kingdom Ministry
Matthew 10:1 (NKJV)…And when He had
called His twelve disciples to Him, He
gave them power over unclean spirits, to
cast them out, and to heal all kinds of
sickness and all kinds of disease.
27
28. Kingdom Ministry
Romans 6:13 (NKJV)…And do not present
your members as instruments of
unrighteousness to sin, but present
yourselves to God as being alive from the
dead, and your members as instruments of
righteousness to God.

29. Kingdom Ministry
Colossians 1:13 (NKJV)…He has delivered
us from the power of darkness and
conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son
of His love,

30. Kingdom Ministry
Colossians 1:27–28…To them God willed to
make known what are the riches of the glory
of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is
Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we
preach, warning every man and teaching
every man in all wisdom, that we may
present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
30
31. Kingdom Ministry
Hebrews 2:14b–15 (NKJV)…He Himself
likewise shared in the same, that through
death He might destroy him who had the
power of death, that is, the devil, and
release those who through fear of death
were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
31
32. Another list for Kingdom use
1 Corinthians 12:28…And God has appointed
these in the church: first apostles, second
prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then
gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties
of tongues.
32
33. Word Wealth
Helps, antilempsis. One with the ability to help or
aid someone; a general helper. It occurs only here
in the Greek New Testament. A broad based gift,
some feel it includes the various activities
associated with the gifts of ministry—“he who
gives” and “he who shows mercy” (Rom. 12:7, 8).
33
34. Word Wealth
Administrations ‘to steer a ship, to guide,’ the
ability to lead—‘guidance, leadership.’ then those
who have the gift of healing, or of helping others,
or of leadership’ 1 Cor 12:28. ‘The gift of
leadership’ may be expressed in some languages
as ‘being able to lead others’ or ‘being able to get
others to follow.
