To whom it may concern:
I am writing this reference letter at Pengyuan Zhang’s request. Pengyuan worked as a
Chinese tutor for my students at University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) in 2009.
I hired Pengyuan, among the many native speakers of Chinese, because he appeared to
be an easy-going, patient and calm person with a good sense of responsibility. He was
such a quick learner that it only took him half an hour to get familiar with the rules of the
tutoring program. He proved to be well-liked by my students. Those at a lower level
made progress due to his tutoring. Pengyuan was always ready to help with the events
organized by China-America Corner, an active UMSL student organization that promotes
language and cultural exchange at UMSL. As far as I know, Pengyuan is also a nice and
kind young man who gets along very well with all those who know him. After working as
a Chinese tutor for a year, he willingly resigned so that another student who urgently
needed a job could take the position.
I have not taught Pengyuan any courses and thus am not aware of her intellectual
potential, academic or scholarly achievements. However, Pengyuan proved himself
cooperative, reliable and competent as a Chinese tutor. I believe that he will be able to
master advanced study in his chosen field if admitted.
Sincerely,
Fushun Le
