I am delighted to be writing this letter of support for Xuejun Zhang, a participant in the Foxfire
Course as part of Piedmont College’s Master’s Program. I know Xuejun best through his
involvement in the week-long intensive course, and as one of the organizing faculty facilitators
for the week, I can attest to Xuejun’s passion for teaching and learning, and his commitment to
showing respect and care in all that he does. Xuejun is clearly a lifelong learner, and as you will
see from his curriculum vitae, he has had some rich experiences throughout his university
student life.
Throughout the week at the Foxfire Centre, Xuejun was actively involved in small and large
group discussions, experiential learning and teaching opportunities and was also required to read
and reflect on the writings of John Dewey and other professional materials. Each student in the
course is also asked to ‘show’ their learning journey at the end of the week, and Xuejun
presented an imaginative exploration of his own learning and transformation by utilizing his
knowledge of the Chinese language. It was a fascinating and provocative demonstration of
powerful learning and discovery.
