What’s your first memory of watching a film? Was it on a laptop? In front of the TV? Or was it in a darkened cinema surrounded by people?
Commercial and independent cinemas don’t operate everywhere and even if you have one nearby, taking the whole family isn’t cheap, plus technology has meant many of us can access movies whenever we want in our own homes, so what happened to the magic of cinema going?
Runcorn
But all across the country thousands of people are brining the magic of cinema to their local communties so that
Kids can still feel that wonder of watching a movie on a big screen. Here is a groups of kids in Bradford who we invited to a screening of the Irish animation the Secret of the Kells at the Plaza Community Cinema in Bradford
Topsham Exeter??
Took it to another level and created a seriously spooky evening for a screening of American Psycho with bits of bodies strewn across the floor = not real ones of course
Brings people together in a fun inclusive environment
By the community for the community – and were doing a lot of work at the moment to look at the positive impacts of cinema in the community
Where would it be?
What would you show?
Who would come?
Would it be popcorn or canapes? Tea, coca cola or champagne? Family fun or red carpet glamour? Formal and smart or relaxed and casual.
FOR YOU??? FOR YOUR COMMUNITY??
Spend five minutes thinking and jot your ideas down. Discuss in small groups. Ask questions?
FEED BACK FROM GROUPS
People do their activity to come up with an ideal film night
Spend 2/3 minutes thinking about what it would look like – where it would be / how the venue would look? Glitzy and glamorous or comfy and relaxed? Stylish or themes with the film?
What fil would you show? Would you have refreshments? Decorations? Discussion? Talks? Quiz?
So you’ve got a great idea – now how to turn it into a reality!! What do you need to do and what resources are out there that can help you?
