Data storage refers to the collective methods and technologies used to capture and retain digital information on storage media like electromagnetic, optical, or silicon-based devices. Storage is a key component of digital devices and allows easy access to and sharing of information. Different types of storage media include hard disks, flash drives, tape systems, and others. Proper data storage and backup is important for improved functionality, easy access to information, and data protection in case of loss. Selection of the best storage medium depends on factors like capacity, costs, performance, reliability, and manageability.

3. Data Storage
The collective methods and
technologies that capture and retain
digital information on
electromagnetic, optical or silicon-
based storage media. Storage is a
key component of digital devices, as
consumers and businesses rely on it
to preserve information ranging from
personal photos to business-critical
information.
4. Storage is frequently used to
describe the devices and data
connected to the computer
through input/output (I/O)
operations, including hard
disks, flash devices, tape
systems and other media types.
6. Working 👑
Data Storage is done when a person saves his/her data in order
to access it again, as and when required. The data one stores is
saved in the different mediums one has access to. Depending on
the size it can be saved in different measurements, ranging from
a ‘bit’, which is the smallest unit of measure in the computer
memory up to ‘exabyte’, the largest unit of measure. For
calculation purposes, ‘eight bits’ make up ‘one byte’. Therefore, a
kilobyte or ‘KB’ measures ‘1024 bytes’; a megabyte or ‘MB’
measures ‘1024 KB’ and so on up until Exabyte.
7. On a Hard Disk
Data is stored on a hard disk by ‘fragmentation’. is a condition in
which the contents of a single file are stored in different locations
on the disk rather than in a contiguous space.
It occurs in three forms, namely:
• Internal Fragmentation
• External Fragmentation
• Data Fragmentation
8. Data Backup
Duplication of data which
allows retrieval of the duplicate
set after a data loss event.
Mediums of such backup are
magnetic tape, hard drives,
external hard drives, USB drive,
cloud storage etc.
