This Week’s Highlights
Special Notes
Field Trip!!
Please make sure you have given us your child’s money
and permission slip! If we do not have it, they will not be
able to go.
Volunteer Consent Form
Make sure you fill out and return a volunteer consent
form if you plan to go on field trips or help in our
classroom! You will not be able to do so if that is not
done. Let me know if you need one sent home!
Volunteer Opportunities
10:10-10:50am (T,Th,F) – Writing Time – We could use
help keeping our voices down, staying on task, and
writing the sounds we hear.
11:35-11:45am (M,T,Th,F) – We come in from lunch
recess and would love to have a guest reader!
12:15-12:30pm on (M,F) – Handwriting – We could use
a couple volunteers to help us make sure we are taking
our time and making letters correctly. It is nice to be
able to break the kids up into small groups and spread
them amongst a few adults.
12:30-1:15pm (M,T,Th,F) – Work Stations – We could
use help keeping our noise level down, staying on
task, and even someone to lead a station or two.
2-2:40pm (M,T,Th,F) – Snack/Show & Tell/Math
Stations – You are more than welcome to join us
during this time too!

“Owl” Good in Miss Nixon’s Nest
We are very excited for our field trip this week! We have
been learning about pumpkins and how they grow. When
we go to Lewis Farm Market, we will be able to pick our
own pumpkin! We have also been learning about fall and
all of the different things that happen during this season.

Phonics
We will learn about the letter Hh and the sound it makes. Also,
we will learn how to recognize specific sounds, and continue to
work on vowels, consonants, compound words, the first sound
heard in words rhyming words.
Reading
We will read a story titled Annabelle Swift, Kindergartener
about a girl’s first day of kindergarten and how she was
nervous. It is the last story in our School unit. We will work on
the comprehension skills of predicting, asking questions to
clarify our understanding, sequencing of events, story
elements, and retelling.
Writing
We will learn how to follow the rules for Writer’s Workshop,
how we can be authors and illustrators, and how our stories
have a beginning, middle, and end.
Math
We will continue to learn about patterns and start working on
the concept of building ten.
Science/Social Studies
We will learn about community helpers and what their role is
in our community.
