1. ABSTRACT
DEVELOPING LOCALIZED ECONOMICS MULTIMEDIA MODULES
IN CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE WAY

This study aimed to develop a localized economics multimedia modules in
creative and innovative way. This is in response to the challenges the teacher and
studentrespondentsencountered in teaching and learningeconomics respectively in
Gingoog City ComprehensiveNationalHigh School during school year 2013-2014.
The findings revealed that all four teachers handling economics find the
instructional materials very challenging. They said that the textbook has: lengthy
textual pages;less studentactivity; less imagesthatsupportthelessons; and focused
on the content of the lesson and not application. The teachers also has no guide in
using 4A’s teaching method and strategy.
Moreover, the student respondents revealed that most of them: found the
economics book and subject boring (90.0%); are visual learners and motivated by
pictures, images, computer games, animation and video clips (84.8%);are exposed
to the internet and other multimedia technology (100.0%);are no longer motivated
in reading lengthy textual pages (75.8%); and have less comprehension in reading
all text articles (66. 7%).
Furthermore, the modules developed in this study were found to be effective
in its teaching strategies, teaching competencies, contents, time frame, language
used, evaluation activities, and objectives. As to efficiency, the modules were
assessed to be very highlyefficient in terms of: simplicity, timeliness, innovativeness,
engaging, attainability, and uniqueness. This study then concludes that using the
localized multimedia modulesmotivated the studentsto learn the economics subject.
