1. There was once a little girl named Hannah. At the age of seven, she was no more
than three feet tall. She had a little yellow rain jacket that she wore to the park everyday.
And everyday, for hours, she would just swing away. She would pretend that she was off
in a distant land away from all the hurt caused by the troubles of the world. Around six
each evening, she would leave the park and run home to her mother’s famous spaghetti.
But one day, she didn’t come home.
It was a normal day for Hannah. She went home and finished her worksheet the
teacher assigned for homework. Then she put on her favorite yellow jacket and went to
the park. It was beautiful outside. There were so many clouds in the bright blue sky that
looked as if the angels decided to have a pillow fight. Hannah sat on her normal swing
and decided not to daydream. She had gotten in trouble at school because she pretended
she was in a different world when her teacher called on her. She never knew it wasn’t
good to make up stories in her head. She was very upset. She took all her anger and used
it to push her swing higher into the sky. The higher she went, the more she forgot about
her life on the ground. She just wanted to fly away. Fly away from war and from teachers
who discouraged dreams. She wanted to break free of life’s tenacious grip. Little did she
know, she had done just that.
Something strange happened to her swing next. First it started to shake. Then it
flung her face first into a fluffy surface. In a panic, Hannah hastily looked around. She
was no longer in her beloved park. In fact, it was almost as if she was on a cloud. When
she looked up, she noticed that she was no longer looking up at a cloudy sky. Instead, it
was just a colossal canvas of blue. She carefully crept towards the edge of the cloud.
When she looked over, she saw the earth resting peacefully beneath her. She lost her
balance at the sight of how high up she was. As she began to fall, she felt someone grab
her by her ankle and help her back onto the cloud.
In front of her was a figure made entirely out of cloud. He, for it looked male,
appeared as a white, fluffy human being. He looked at her and smiled. Apparently, she
was not as used to a “cloud-person” as he was to a human being.
“My name is Cloudysseus. Welcome to Cloutopia, the twenty-first cloud-city”
He held out his hand for Hannah. His eyes shone brighter than the sun. Hannah
knew she had no where to run so she took his hand.
“Hannah, we know that you’re father is at war right now.”
Hannah nodded. Her mother had told her that he wasn’t coming home though but
she kept that to herself.
“We have a surprise for you, Hannah.”
Cloudysseus had led her to a cloud version of her home. She ran inside. Looking
out the window of her cloud bedroom was a man of great stature.
“Daddy?”
At the sound of her voice, the man turned around. His face stained with tears, he
ran to her. He picked her up and twirled her around in circles until he stopped just to hold
her close to him.
“I’ve been waiting for you, sweetheart…”
