We offer tailor made spa consulting services encompass-
ing all areas of spa creation and development. Whether
you are planning to open a new spa of your own, en-
hance your current spa, or expand your services and
current treatment menu, we are there to provide you with
tailor made services to develop a unique concept that is
entirely your own and will enhance your current business
model and uplift your staff working within your spa/
wellness environment.
SPA
CONSULTATION
My intent was to create a forward thinking brand. A brand that
thinks ahead of other brands as well as creates a creative envi-
ronment for both client and also staff, Langaro life style center
was created from the love of the industry by a father and daugh-
ter team. From this family owed concept , we created Langaro
life style centre based in camps bay.
The concept and design was created allowing the brand to grow
and at the same time its design to evolve with time.

We met Duncan at the Les Nouvelles Estheti-
que Spa Conference in July of 2012. Being a
new spa owner, I was treading very delicately
into unknown territory that I had very little
knowledge about. At the time, Langaro was not
even an entity, all we had was a registered
name, a bank account and a tiny office that we were renting in
LANGARO

Century City, with a dream to build a brand within
the spa and wellness industry.
Duncan at that time was a trainer for a luxury spa
brand (Germaine de Cappucini) and he was at
the stand educating people on GDC and brand.
This is how we met – I was surprised to learn that
Duncan lived in Cape Town and we agreed to set
up a meeting when we were back from confer-
ence the following week. From that initial meeting
at Newport Café in Mouille Point, Cape Town,
things were just meant to be.
Duncan is truly a man of many talents! We were
surprised to learn that he was a qualified thera-
pist and trainer who had been living and working
in Cape Town for over 10 years. Duncan had
built up a wealth of knowledge and client experi-
ence over his many endeavors and because we
wanted a boutique in Langaro we were so im-
pressed to learn that he had worked with two re-
nowned South African designers and could as-
sist us with our fashion needs too.

This was the start of a dynamic business relation-
ship with By The Design and Langaro, that has
gone from strength to strength over the last 3
years. Duncan is an integral part of our team
here and our clients adore him. He has a really
positive energy that keeps us inspired and moti-
vated and he has a true passion for the industry
and creating change through dynamic leader-
ship and innovative ideas, to ensure our busi-

Up coming projects Ghost mountain inn:
By the design has been asked by Ghost Mountain Inn, Zulu Land to help create a desti-
nation spa.
El Spa Congo:
We are currently in the design phase of the project for a Spa on the tenth floor of a hotel
in DRC Congo for the President’s daughter.
EL Institute:
We are in the negotiation phase of an amazing project to start a beauty school in the
Congo to uplift the community and create the first beauty school in the country.
Spa Evolution:
Spa evolution is an integrated approach differentiating your spa through its brand this
was expressed at the spa conference 2015 les nouvells.

DESIGN
Ritual design
By the design has been working with Terres d’
Afrique since the creation of the concept of the
brand.
Terres d’ Afrigue is a sustainably developed or-
ganic skincare that harnesses the potency of Af-
rica’s legendary botanical heritage in a collection
of laboratory-crafted formulations.
By the design has created a full treatment menu
for the brand as well as full training and develop-
ment of the bespoke offering of the brand with
custom made rituals for a plethora of top hotel
brands.
We have also created treatments for the Four
Season Westcliff JHB including the weavers treat-
ment and a crystal massage.

In addition to our range of services, we develop and implement a holis-
tic talent strategy and staff development framework. This provides the

and classic expression of self. By the design loves
style and our consultants assist our corporate and

Wardrobe planing, uniform design, fashion shows,
on-set styling.
STYLE
“Fashion is not simply a matter of clothes; fashion is in the
air,born upon the wind; one intuits it” Coco Chanel
Working with two great fashion designers, Kobus Dippenar and
Errol Arendz, gave me the platform and the understanding of this
art, I have always been fascinated from a child about fashion and
the way one could express ones emotions for the day through de-
sign and fabric. It always allowed me to have a creative outlet.
With this in mind and the experience I had, I created a section
with in my brand where I could assist designers,boutiques, pri-
vate clients and corporate business create concepts and plat-
forms to express their creativity.

SKOUSPEL
One of “by the design” first jobs was for the on-line brand
“Zando”, where creating looks and styles for two of the shoe
brands. It was a great way of creating a name for myself.
I was given the opportunity to publish my expression is some
great editorials on fashion and style, to fashion talks, to Bloggers
and fashion lovers. I found a common ground for both of my
loves Fashion and Beauty.

Starting with self belief and empowerment and then passing this
through to my love of people and development, I started By The Design
with an evolution in mind. An evolution that I have seen a long time com-
ing and something that I intend to embrace and cherish from, not only
for self fulfillment, but to service the needs of an industry that has fed
and challenged me my entire career. From this evolution I hope to grow
and partner with amazing people, to uplift people and just make life a
little bit more pleasurable. After all, what is our raison detre? Money?
Success? Happiness? Love? Beauty?Let’s have this all in a understand-
able measure that benefits all and enhances for the better good.
