Introduction
Nature-based Health tourism is a form of tourism that satisfies the person’s main motive for maintaining and
strengthening the physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological health in nature-based tourism establishments that
offer diverse and individually prepared services in four basic components of wellness, stimulating the tourist’s well
being and body care including nature-based health care practices.
Uttarakhand is blessed with such divine nature. Many rivers flow here for twelve months and 71% of land is covered
with forests. It offers a unique blend of all natural resources rich in adventure, flora and fauna, mythological stories
and spirituality that plays an important role for good health.

Need and Significance of Study
The intense competition and pressure to survive in a fast-paced developing world has led to increased
stress and frustration, resulting in various health issues and complications. The current work trends have
created a society that is constantly changing, leading to overworked individuals experiencing stress,
anxiety, identity crises, and depression. As a result, the tourism industry has turned its focus towards
nature – based health and wellness tourism, as people seek physical and psychological treatments to
address their health obligations and complications.
Many people are willing to spend significant amounts of money on spa and medicinal treatments to
achieve complete well-being, often overlooking the natural resources that are readily available in the
Himalayan region. The abundance of natural wellness resources, providing an excellent opportunity for
tourists seeking medical, ayurvedic, or spa treatments to enhance their overall health.

Century and suicide rates are rising, especially amongst young men (e.g., Mullholland
2005).
• So, Psychological stability is in demand in this contemporary and hectic world. For
which green spaces offer a best place for such development, inspiring the individual to
understand his/her existence and enjoying the closeness to nature.
• Exploring the nature itself without spending much, not only helps an individual to be
away from all the worldly affairs, but to regain his/her inner strength along with new
perceptions towards life, nature and able to understand real meaning of their lives.

secondary resources such as books, research papers, magazines,
internet etc. related to Health & Nature-based Health Tourism.
As well as researcher shows the relation between Nature and
Health Tourism with her personal thinking for the picturesque
state of Uttarakhand.

state of picturesque Uttarakhand. As well it shows the relation between the components of
nature – based health tourism from the point of view of tourist’s health and presents the
importance and features of nature-based tourism. Thus, this research paper is very useful in
exploring the potential of nature- based health tourism in Uttarakhand by understanding it’s
critical approach, different features and their importance from tourists point of view.

Conclusion
Uttarakhand that has been endowed with the availability of various natural resources
has not yet been focused by authorities and even the tourists are unaware of such
beautiful aspect. Development of nature-based health tourism will not only help in
promoting the destinations and traditional aspects of wellness but also support in
developing a harmony among nature and human being.
Together, we can unlock the full potential of nature-based health tourism in
Uttarakhand, and create a sustainable and prosperous future for the state and it’s
people.
