Global Warming: Fact or Fiction
Global warming has been an issue for quite some time. Over the years there has been a lot of
research. We had acid rain due to pollution sent in the air due to factories and car emissions.
They worked hard to clean up the environment. River we could never see in during this pollution
are now clear enough to see the rocks and some fish. Anti- environmentalists fight this all the
way. They know the issues they cause and choose to hide it, which leads to mysterious deaths.
Coal mining that goes on even today; people worked and became succumbed to black lung. They
died of this. So is global warming a fact or a fiction? Is it real or is it both? We have strange
weather patterns; we have sink holes, mudslides, tornadoes in areas never thought possible. In
Pennsylvania they have fire water. This paper will investigate, report the findings and then give
an opinion to the author’s point of view.

Global Warming: Fact or Fiction
Global warming is mistaken by people as meaning a warmer climate. This is not what it
means, what it is are changing of climate weather. This happens when co2 and other heat
emission trap the heat, and over heats the earth. (retrieved from Union of concerned scientists)
Climate changes such as colder air, hotter summers, and ozone changes. The question of debate
is, is it global warming? Or is this a cycle that is normal? In my younger years we had so much
snow we could not move. Now the snow is nowhere close, to as high as to back then. Has it
changed or does it just seem like it. Pictures show that snow has been at different levels in
different years. The main thing sis New York State has had strong storm in recent years.
Tornadoes (by experience) have been shown in New York with devastating results. We have
never, that I can find on record have had tornadoes. This was devastating in our areas as it was
considered high winds. High winds do not cause uprooting of a path including trees, homes, and
buildings. This is due to vast deforesting of trees, which slows the paths of winds as well as
mountains that are excavated regularly, the taking of these resources lets the winds continue to
pick up speed. There is nothing to slow it down and sometimes it traps it to wield higher wind
power. In the 80s we had air pollution as well as water contaminates. It was once so bad we
could not see in the water, acid rain in heavy areas burned people’s skin. This was cleaned and
now we are able to fish our streams once again and see into the water.
Global Warming 5
Scientists
Scientists are on both sides of the issue. Some say we have Global warming and some say it is
normal changes. Fact or fiction, most report from their own point of view. This paper will try to
sort out both areas. Scientist for centuries has talked about global warming. They explained how
the earth works in relation to its surroundings, including climatic weather.
Acid rain is an example, that scientist fought heavily against. This was caused by factories
burning coal, fossil fuels and vehicles transmission into the air. This then caused a reaction of
sulfuric and nitric acid which causes run offs into the ground and water. This then kills of fish,
water life and vegetation. (as retrieved from National Geographic. Com/ acid rain) Factories no
longer burn coal (in the USA, as much) and there has been regulation on cars for the reducing of
emissions. The air since has become clearer and the waters replenished. The waters in 1988 were
so bad people stopped going into the water, you could not even see in the water, it was mucky,
gross looking. It now is clear you can see all the way to the bottom again. Now we face these
new ideas of fracking, which release natural gases but are dangerous.
According to WND (2013, WND.com) there are over 31,000 scientist who reject the global
warming theory. They say that global warming is a myth and a reason to be power hungry.
Global warming theory started in Tokyo and it is a reason to raise energy source prices. These
scientist believe that it is normal what is happening and is good for the environment around us.
By trying to stop, we may be endangering life itself. It is a very interesting point of view. They
claim it is a pattern that changes.
Historians have also debated this issue; they have talked about the weather and changes. They
use written history to discover how weather was back in the previous years. Tribal natives also
Global Warming 6
talked of weather patterns. The Native used to follow the buffalo, or warmer climates. They did
not completely stay on one area. They followed the food, animals they hunted.
Causes of Global Warming
While the heated debate continues, some changes have been made to improve the
environment. Those opposed cannot deny how the water ways have changed since these changes
have been made. Those who have fished all their lives can tell you the changes of the water
ways. They no longer fear fishing as the water is cleaner and clearer. There is no doubt that
pollutions are a major cause. All one has to do is go to these site, which are restricted. Why are
they restricted? Because there are things they do not want the public to see, and risk for those
people to be there. Run offs from mining and drilling companies pollute the areas with chemicals
needed. This we know is not good. It is not a natural form once their properties have been
changed. Solid forms are natural, when we break or change the properties it changes how the
“natural” properties have been made. Mercury is naturally in the ground, where it sits it is
harmless, only when it is taken broken and made into a liquid does it become dangerous. When
you combine the factories gases, drilling and chemicals, mining and run offs, the combination is
what hurts the environment. It is not each source alone but the change of the sources and
combinations together that they become harmful to the environment. Many of the old buildings
had to be redone because the material made it dangerous for our lungs; lead in paints we used
toxic to kids. We all took science; we should use that common sense to know that we are indeed
harming the environment. Cancer is a form of a health issue that is very much taken over
people’s lives. It is more common than it used to be. We humans have tried to make things come
easier and faster and as a result it is affecting our health.
Global Warming 7
Drilling
Drilling is one way they pull natural gases out of the ground. This is a natural gas that lies
within the Marcellus Shale bed. There are two ways this gas is obtained; Hydraulic Fracturing
and horizontal drilling. According to the anti- shale site these are the definitions.
Hydraulic Fracturing or known as fracking, the natural gases are extracted from deep down
in the Marcellus shale. Once these wells are drilled, they then send water, sand and chemicals
forcing them down into the wells. Forcing with high pressure to make the natural gases flow
upward.
Horizontal Drilling known as horizontal hydro-fracking is a way to get to gases within the
shale, which were unobtainable while doing normal drilling vertically. They use 596 chemicals
with tons of water to get this into the shale and bring up the natural gases. (2013 Marcellus Shale
protest) this water then has to be disposed of as it can never be reused. One to eight million
gallons is used on a well. A well is fracked eighteen times a day.
Halliburton Loophole was done in 2005 when Bush and Cheney signed an energy bill which
exempted companies from disclosing chemical that they used. The energy bill was passed by
congress to ensure the safety of the water. (2013, Marcellus Shale Protest)
Chevron on of the biggest energy companies said that they provide 140,000 jobs. The natural
gases are the cleanest to burn, and that it is environmentally safe. Their plan by 2035 is to have
50% of the United States resources in use. They claim that over 2,500 trillion cubic feet are
usable.
While companies like Chevron paint a pretty, clean and natural environment, they claim there
are no issues. They do include some, very little information about some incidents. These
Global Warming 8
however do not show a whole picture. There are other companies, but regardless they have some
regulations they follow and meet.
The bigger pictures are those people who have to live on the lands that were fracked.
Pennsylvania has residents that would beg to differ from Chevrons claims. Their water is
flammable and cannot be drunk. These are residents who did not ok the fracking and not on lands
where fracking was done. They live nearby them. The water coming from faucets once delicious
are now dangerous. They cannot bathe in the water due to burns, when have you see a flaming
ice cube? Go to Pennsylvania and that is what you will see.
Dumps
Dumps have come a long ways. People used to dump garbage along the roads (still due
today even though it is illegal and fines are the result) and dump on an area of their properties
(still do this as well). Once they started the county dump people started bring them there. While
some used to be near water, there are environmental regulations to protect the rivers and streams
now. The dump in our area started a program, Delaware county electric company; they use
resources, such as our dump sites to produce electric energy. Everything is recycled here, and
reused in some way. The big fear is running out of space and the closing down of these facilities.
Area people are not charged, so there is no excuse not to use them.
My opinion
I would have to say with all the information that I have read, that this is a very dangerous
situation. People need to cut doesn’t their use of sources. We are so spoiled we waste so
much of our sources. If we are not careful we will kill all those sources that make us
healthy. Native American long ago said that we should only use what we need and leave
Global Warming 9
what we do not use. They also warned about raping mother (clearing, stripping the lands
of all her sources) In science we all learned about mineral and polar within the ground
that keep us where we are. We have to ask ourselves, do we continue to be naïve, greedy?
Or do we act now to prevent atrophies’ bad weather, sink holes, mudslides, earthquakes,
tornadoes, and so forth. We are causing the destruction of this world. Polluting other
worlds (should there be) the universe with garbage NASA leaves in the atmosphere in
space. Once we have done this, there is no turning back. We cannot survive without
water; we have 95% water within us. The air we breathe we cannot live without. It is
irresponsible what companies are trying to hide. If they would be honest perhaps we
could trust them. Money is not everything and one day it will be worth nothing. We need
to try and find better ways of using our environment, recycle is very important. There are
some things that we cannot recycle which then should never be made. We need the water,
air and environment to remain clean, it is irreplaceable, and we cannot live without any of
them. We waste so much in this country it is sad and it is selfish. The Natives always
taught their children to only use what one needs, to respect all their surroundings, even
the stones beneath their feet. This world is not owned but borrowed by use to live; we
should respect it and treat it with honor that it deserves to keep us alive, and fed. If we
lose this it is only our faults for being selfish and greedy.

The waters in 1988 were so bad people stopped going into the water, you could not even see in the water, it was mucky, gross looking. It now is clear you can see all the way to the bottom again. Now we face these new ideas of fracking, which release natural gases but are dangerous. According to WND (2013, WND.com) there are over 31,000 scientist who reject the global warming theory. They say that global warming is a myth and a reason to be power hungry. Global warming theory started in Tokyo and it is a reason to raise energy source prices. These scientist believe that it is normal what is happening and is good for the environment around us. By trying to stop, we may be endangering life itself. It is a very interesting point of view. They claim it is a pattern that changes. Historians have also debated this issue; they have talked about the weather and changes. They use written history to discover how weather was back in the previous years. Tribal natives also
  • 6. Global Warming 6 talked of weather patterns. The Native used to follow the buffalo, or warmer climates. They did not completely stay on one area. They followed the food, animals they hunted. Causes of Global Warming While the heated debate continues, some changes have been made to improve the environment. Those opposed cannot deny how the water ways have changed since these changes have been made. Those who have fished all their lives can tell you the changes of the water ways. They no longer fear fishing as the water is cleaner and clearer. There is no doubt that pollutions are a major cause. All one has to do is go to these site, which are restricted. Why are they restricted? Because there are things they do not want the public to see, and risk for those people to be there. Run offs from mining and drilling companies pollute the areas with chemicals needed. This we know is not good. It is not a natural form once their properties have been changed. Solid forms are natural, when we break or change the properties it changes how the “natural” properties have been made. Mercury is naturally in the ground, where it sits it is harmless, only when it is taken broken and made into a liquid does it become dangerous. When you combine the factories gases, drilling and chemicals, mining and run offs, the combination is what hurts the environment. It is not each source alone but the change of the sources and combinations together that they become harmful to the environment. Many of the old buildings had to be redone because the material made it dangerous for our lungs; lead in paints we used toxic to kids. We all took science; we should use that common sense to know that we are indeed harming the environment. Cancer is a form of a health issue that is very much taken over people’s lives. It is more common than it used to be. We humans have tried to make things come easier and faster and as a result it is affecting our health.
  • 7. Global Warming 7 Drilling Drilling is one way they pull natural gases out of the ground. This is a natural gas that lies within the Marcellus Shale bed. There are two ways this gas is obtained; Hydraulic Fracturing and horizontal drilling. According to the anti- shale site these are the definitions. Hydraulic Fracturing or known as fracking, the natural gases are extracted from deep down in the Marcellus shale. Once these wells are drilled, they then send water, sand and chemicals forcing them down into the wells. Forcing with high pressure to make the natural gases flow upward. Horizontal Drilling known as horizontal hydro-fracking is a way to get to gases within the shale, which were unobtainable while doing normal drilling vertically. They use 596 chemicals with tons of water to get this into the shale and bring up the natural gases. (2013 Marcellus Shale protest) this water then has to be disposed of as it can never be reused. One to eight million gallons is used on a well. A well is fracked eighteen times a day. Halliburton Loophole was done in 2005 when Bush and Cheney signed an energy bill which exempted companies from disclosing chemical that they used. The energy bill was passed by congress to ensure the safety of the water. (2013, Marcellus Shale Protest) Chevron on of the biggest energy companies said that they provide 140,000 jobs. The natural gases are the cleanest to burn, and that it is environmentally safe. Their plan by 2035 is to have 50% of the United States resources in use. They claim that over 2,500 trillion cubic feet are usable. While companies like Chevron paint a pretty, clean and natural environment, they claim there are no issues. They do include some, very little information about some incidents. These
  • 8. Global Warming 8 however do not show a whole picture. There are other companies, but regardless they have some regulations they follow and meet. The bigger pictures are those people who have to live on the lands that were fracked. Pennsylvania has residents that would beg to differ from Chevrons claims. Their water is flammable and cannot be drunk. These are residents who did not ok the fracking and not on lands where fracking was done. They live nearby them. The water coming from faucets once delicious are now dangerous. They cannot bathe in the water due to burns, when have you see a flaming ice cube? Go to Pennsylvania and that is what you will see. Dumps Dumps have come a long ways. People used to dump garbage along the roads (still due today even though it is illegal and fines are the result) and dump on an area of their properties (still do this as well). Once they started the county dump people started bring them there. While some used to be near water, there are environmental regulations to protect the rivers and streams now. The dump in our area started a program, Delaware county electric company; they use resources, such as our dump sites to produce electric energy. Everything is recycled here, and reused in some way. The big fear is running out of space and the closing down of these facilities. Area people are not charged, so there is no excuse not to use them. My opinion I would have to say with all the information that I have read, that this is a very dangerous situation. People need to cut doesn’t their use of sources. We are so spoiled we waste so much of our sources. If we are not careful we will kill all those sources that make us healthy. Native American long ago said that we should only use what we need and leave
  • 9. Global Warming 9 what we do not use. They also warned about raping mother (clearing, stripping the lands of all her sources) In science we all learned about mineral and polar within the ground that keep us where we are. We have to ask ourselves, do we continue to be naïve, greedy? Or do we act now to prevent atrophies’ bad weather, sink holes, mudslides, earthquakes, tornadoes, and so forth. We are causing the destruction of this world. Polluting other worlds (should there be) the universe with garbage NASA leaves in the atmosphere in space. Once we have done this, there is no turning back. We cannot survive without water; we have 95% water within us. The air we breathe we cannot live without. It is irresponsible what companies are trying to hide. If they would be honest perhaps we could trust them. Money is not everything and one day it will be worth nothing. We need to try and find better ways of using our environment, recycle is very important. There are some things that we cannot recycle which then should never be made. We need the water, air and environment to remain clean, it is irreplaceable, and we cannot live without any of them. We waste so much in this country it is sad and it is selfish. The Natives always taught their children to only use what one needs, to respect all their surroundings, even the stones beneath their feet. This world is not owned but borrowed by use to live; we should respect it and treat it with honor that it deserves to keep us alive, and fed. If we lose this it is only our faults for being selfish and greedy.
