personal odyssey lol
There have been many places I've gone and people I've met that have changed who I am and still continue to affect me today. My home in Virginia,
family in North Carolina and Maryland, and even going to school every day has shaped me as a person and has helped me open my eyes and learn
how the real world is. Although some people may not realize it, but they could be a completely different person than who they were a few months ago.
People, including me, are changing over time and the things they do and the people the meet effect who they become whether they like it or not.
First, not only have I been to Northern Virginia, but I have lived here for fourteen years and counting. However, I am not necessarily happy about it,
which brings me...show more content...
Overall, I have become a more relaxed person than who I use to be, now that I have learned when I can't take a two day getaway with my father, I can
always take a two minute getaway by myself whenever I want.
I believe my downward spiral began in middle school, around 7th grade. The middle school I attended for three long, miserable years was Mercer
Middle School. I absolutely hated the years that I spent in middle school – I didn't like the people I spent time with, I was extremely insecure and had
no self–esteem, and spent most of middle trying to please society's definition of beauty. All I can remember about my years in middle school is
how much time I wasted trying to impress and please people that probably didn't even know my name, which I believe resulted in me being
diagnosed with an eating disorder. I got in trouble for plagiarism, was also diagnosed with depression and didn't remember a point when I wasn't in
the guidance counselor's office. The best part about middle school was graduating considering they were the worst years of my 14 year life. Overall,
while in middle school, I discovered that it's okay to let people help me once in a while because they usually just wants what's best for me. However,
due to all of the help and "guidance" I've received in middle school, I do now find myself receiving help and going to seek "guidance" as

My Odyssey : Autobiography Of My Odyssey
My Odyssey Autobiography Version 2 Today is the day, finally time for us to get up and go. Time to live in adventure and see amazing features in
the land around us. I have been waiting for this day ever since my parents first talked about it, I could not wait. It was finally time to go on our
odyssey, even though we will be crowded and cramped up the whole ride it will be worth the wait. "Boys into the car" my dad yelled. I was still
gathering all of my daily items like my toothbrush and my pills when he had said this. I shoved all of these items into my bag and ran as fast as my
legs could carry me to the car. My face turned red, my palms started to...show more content...
I fell asleep pretty much as soon as we were on the road. I jumped out of my seat to a loud scream in the car, from my youngest brother, Brendan.
He wanted something to eat so my dad chucked a granola bar at him, if I was awake I could have just handed it to him instead of him getting food
chucked at him. I looked out my window and realized that we were about 15 miles from Green Bay. To dodge Green Bay and its lunch time traffic,
we merged on a highway that went around Green Bay. A little after we got onto that highway, we approached up to a Ford Explorer, and like
anyone that you approach on a multi lane highway you merge to pass. So, she began to pass this vehicle and this other person approached behind
us and began to honk. They were too lazy to turn off their speed control. So, my mom had to accelerate and merge right in front of the Explorer.
Turns out it was a police car with hidden police lights, and it flashed at us. She thought that this car was trying to pull her over so she pulled over. I
guess that it was just warning us to not pull right in front of them again, because it didn't even slow down after that. I began to feel drowsy again and
fell asleep. I woke up a couple of hours later to a honking semi–truck. I asked "Where are we now?" "We are in Chicago and stuck work traffic." It
probably took at least 2 hours and 30 minutes to speed back up to the speed limit; and during this time, we only went about 3 miles. My brothers began

Examples Of Personal Insights In The Odyssey
Personal Insights: Telemachos physically and spiritually grows up in this chapter. He begins to gain characteristics that mirror his father, Odysseus.
After Athena, the goddess, pays him a visit Telemachos gains confidence in his own abilities, " (page 13). This simile helps create the strengths of
the gods and goddesses by adding to Athena's exit. Penelopeia is in so much distress after losing Odyesseus but she doesn't let up. P. deals with all
the suitors very courageously she represents a powerful female figure in a time where women were not thought very highly of. Although P. has the

This shows personification. In this book, the trust of the gods is so important to people, if they know the gods are with them they too almost feel

he foreshadows to his departure by saying, "...Theme Awareness: T. shows the theme of relationship of man to God when he prayed to Athena to

Homer's The Odyssey-Personal Narrative
As the day I awoke, I've known that my father has died and how it happened was a tragedy. I had a vision last night that I was being taken to
Agamemnon. I knew that this was true, it was that I saw it coming. "I will be Agamemnon's to be bride" I shouted in my head. I only thought of what
has happened so far. I was panicking over the war. Mymother queen Hecuba was worrying over us, I couldn't bare to watch my mother die, as I
already saw of her fate. As we all were being taken to a man to tell us what will happen to us all. I heard the man say that my mother was going to be
Odysseus slave. I heard her plead as much as she can to not be his slave, but nothing helped.
I wanted to scream at him and say "You should know better than making us servants, we are royalty." but I couldn't because I knew my place, nothing
would help. As I stood there stiffly having visions and being traumatized, they soon called to me. The man told my mother,"Cassandra is for
Agamemnon". I sat there still with no sudden...show more content...
I couldn't see who did it, but I was tired. As we got to Agamemnon's castle, Clytemnestra was acting as if she was happy that Agamemnon has
returned. I stood there with no motion just going into a vision, I saw Apollo. He was going to kill me with an axe. he was about to slay me, and I
screamed as loud as I could. I never thought of a horrific accident. As I came back to reality, Queen Clytemnestra was calling for me, for I knew that
this was my fate. I stood there trying not to show fear. She took me to Agamemnon, dead she had an axe, just like the vision. " do you have mercy,
please don't kill me I shall not die as a slave" I plead. "You'll die with your beloved one", says Clytemnestra in rage. She grabbed the axe and swung, I
jerked a bit, but it was too late. " you shall pay for this, for these are my last words." I say. As I see the light and blood behind me, I rise to join the

Response To The Odyssey
Like Beowulf, the movie is a sort of fantasy since it has gods, goddesses, monsters and other creatures. A movie that made me laugh, sad, bored,
excited, kilig and teary–eyed. It's just funny that, honestly, I got bored with the endless journey which Odysseus have. I even doubt if he will make it
to Ithaca. Yet, he's willingness to see Ithaca is still strong. I admire the script writer of "The Odyssey" for its wonderful lines that really caught my
attention and touched my heart. Lines telling us about the struggle of life that will mold us into a better individual. Lines where I thought "I want to be
someone's Penelope" "I want to be someone's worth the wait..." Such lines full of valuing and...show more content...
Lastly, my favorite line in this film was "I prefer to live my mortal life in the arms of my wife... rather than live forever without it." These words says
how true love Odysseus have for her Penelope. He even refused being immortal just to be with her Queen. Truly, love conquers all. At the side of
Penelope, she destroys the tapestry every night to avoid choosing among her suitors. For her, Odysseus will always be her King. Overall, the movie
move around the long travel of Odysseus by the curse of Poseidon. In summary it can be just a lovestory but it put together different valuable lesson
like love of Odysseus to his men or friendship despite the stubborness of them. The Giant Cyclops, the Witch, Calypso, entering the Kingdom of Dead,
encounter the Scylla, Charybdis and the curiosity of Elpenor are the conflicts that prolonged his expedition. The journey that strengthens the love,
trust, loyalty and faithfulness between Penelope and Odysseus. The journey that must be understood by all of us, and we will know the true meaning
of life. God's purpose is not to punish and make our life miserable rather to give the wisdom of one's

Odyssey Have You Related To My Life
What trials from the Odyssey have you related to your life? Life generally is supposed to be how you want it to be. My life is pretty good, but I have
trials like most people in life do but that doesn't mean my life is bad. The Odyssey is symbolic of my life in many ways. It is symbolic because I have
life goals like odysseus did to get back to Ithaka, I have perils and trials, I have someone who protects me Like Athena, and people who motivate me to
meet my goal like Penelope and Telemakhos did.
First reason why the odyssey is symbolic to my life is because I have life goals like Odysseus tries to get back to Ithaka. I would like to graduate high
school with college credits, go to Utah State and then finish school somewhere in california

My Odyssey Essay : My Personal Odyssey
My Personal Odyssey Throughout this class we have studied multiple types of heroes starting with Gilgamesh, then Odysseus, and then Aeneas. All of
whom were individuals that exemplified strength, loyalty, and courage no matter the obstacles in their way. Additionally, they shared common skills
such as being exemplarily military leaders, as well as being the leaders of their own houses. These characters, with the exception of Gilgamesh, were
so heroic that they even traveled to the depths of hell in order to face death and show demonstrate their immense heroism. However, none of these
heroes have influenced me as much as the philosophers that tackled the questions of morality and what it means to live the good life. "The difficult
thing is not to escape death, I think, but to escape wickedness" (Apology, 528). For their respective cultures these epic heroes served as role models
for what their citizenry was to strive to become, and their ancient journey's still contain teachable lessons for today. Although, everyone can't be the
type of heroes that are displayed in these epics; I'm never going to be a military captain, found my own nation, or be the king of some domain. The
characteristics that they display are translatable but are not always universally applicable to every situation. Although, I've learned we can always
choose to do what we consider right or wrong. It doesn't matter if our legacy is eternal, nor should we consider

Odyssey Reflection Paper
Homer's The Odyssey is home to many classics within its pages. From the Cyclops, Scylla and a myriad of other creatures, The Odyssey is a classic
in every sense of the word and its influence on modern day culture is plain to see. However, it wasn't just the monsters that drew people into Homer's
tale, it was also characters. Describing the tale of Odysseus, who after winning a ten–year long war thanks to his quick wits and high intelligence. The
story delves into his journey on trying to get back to his wife, Penelope and child, Telemachus. For twenty years, Odysseus sailed, fought and
outsmarted many obstacles, losing most of his men in the process. And when he finally reaches his home, suitors trying to court his sorrowful wife, who

Before Telemachus begins his journey, the goddess Athena watches over him from Olympus and decides to help him. However, she does not make
herself know to Telemachus, instead she disguise herself as familiar faces to him. And it's these disguises that bring out Telemachus' character. Her first
disguise is as an old friend named Mentor. "Then bright–eyed Athena, assuming Mentor's form and voice once more called Telemachus out of the
palace to her side. 'Telemachus,' she said, 'your well–grieved companions are sitting at their oars, waiting for your word to start'"(Homer 25). This
scene explains how Telemachus views Mentor. He not only sees him as a man to be trusted, but also heed the words of. Telemachus doesn't dissuade
him or any of the like; he listens to his words and follows his instructions. Thus painting the idea that Telemachus knows this man well enough, that he
is willing to follow his will in the middle of the night. However, there is something else that goes on. And that is the silent relationship of Telemachus
and Athena. Touched on by Michael Murrin is his article Athena and Telemachus he goes into detail of the complex relationship between the two and
explains, "In her disguise as Mentor, Athena does just what she promised to do in the divine assembly that begins The Odyssey. She stirs up Telemachus
and gets him to act on his own. She does so with concrete

Her appearance is frustratingly confusing. She is the most hideous, yet beautiful creature ever to walk the Earth. Her eyes, the color of the sparkling
sea during daylight, her hair dark brown, almost black, reaching her feet. Her skin is an unusually scaly texture. It is almost the color of the poisonous
hyloxalus infraguttatus frog. A bit lighter, though. One can see her mouth consists of millions of tiny, sharp fangs which make her even more
terrifying. Yet, when one gazes into her eyes they are pulled in by her baffling, almost goddess–like delicacy. All the more to beware of this cunning
deceiver. Odysseus, seeing this alluring beauty for the first time, is astonished. He says, "You are the creature who made this journey so difficult...show

with that one sword––what was the name? Oh yes, I remember. The Kopis. You killed MY father. And now, you must prepare yourself. It is your turn
to face death." And with that, Nadiya withdraws her Dark Sword. Simultaneously, Odysseus quickly whips out his Aulos, which was handed down to
him by his father, and his father's father, and his father's father, and so on. He presses the smooth, wooden surface of the tube–shaped flute to his
mouth and begins playing a swift tune. He slowly looks behind him and starts walking, being aware of anything that might hinder his movement.
Nadiya and her faithful devotees, the Gorgons, begin to trail after him. He puts down the musical instrument, gets on his boat, and quickly uses the
oars to push himself away from the dock, meanwhile the inhabitants of the land who followed Odysseus remained in a trance. Again, he picks up the
instrument and continues to play. He is now far from shore, and Nadiya and the Gorgons are at the forefront of the crowd, promising an imminent
death for themselves. Now, the only thing seen were the tops of their heads. Once they were fully submerged under water, Odysseus was assured that

Personal Narrative: The Odyssey
A few years back I was sailing the open ocean with my leader, Odysseus, and the rest of the crew heading home when Odysseus informed us that
we would be taking the long route home. As we grew closer to a strange island, the wind stopped and the water became quiet. "Tie me to the sail
post!" Odysseus yelled to us. I thought this was a bit odd of him but we followed orders. We began rowing and quickly as possible to get away
from the dangerous song of the Sirens. We were rowing so fast the water looked like white caps. Then we began to hear the song. We knew if we
listened to it long enough we would eventually be tempted to jump overboard to our death whether it be by the deadly rocks in the sea, drowning in
the ocean, or washing up

Personal Journeys In Homer's The Odyssey
All heroes around the world go through a journey of their own. Those journeys can be a physical, , mental, emotional journey, and lots more. These
types of personal journeys are demonstrated in an epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer, an interview, The Hero's adventure by Joseph Campbell and
Bill Moyers, a short poem, Courage by Anne Sexton, a graphic novel, The Odyssey by Gareth Hinds. They all show how journeys can be
transformative and show a person's strengths and/or weaknesses. Anyone who takes a journey whether it's physical or mental, they transform in some
way, revealing something about them. First, in an epic poem, The Odyssey, a brave, powerful leader,Odysseus transforms mentally, and becomes very
wise and modest as he encounters challenges and many difficulties as he sails on his journey home from Troy. In...show more content...
Odysseus thinks through his plan and takes care of the suitors before he actually reveals himself to his wife, and stays calm throughout his whole
entire plan. Odysseus has clearly transformed mentally in a positive way after he completes his journey. Second, in an interview, The Hero's
Adventure, with Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers, the interviewee, Joseph Campbell thoroughly explains about heroes, the journeys they take and the
importance of the journey. First, when Campbell is asked to define a hero, he saids, "Hero learns to experience the supernormal range of human
spiritual life and then comes back with a message" (661). Heroes learn by experiencing abnormal situations, then, they come back improved, and
developed. Next, in a short poem, Courage, by Anne Sexton, she fully describes a physical and mental journey that

On March 26, 2016, a friend, an acquaintance, and I drove to Norfolk, Virginia, for a photoshoot. The three of us all had writing internships with the

however, this trip showed me a depth to the city that I had never noticed before. My friend, Ludina, bubbled with excitement during our fifteen–minute

If I were given the chance to go on my own Odyssey to three different places the decision would be a difficult one. For as long as I can remember I
have wanted to travel and explore various places across the world. If I had to make the choice of three places to visit on my Odyssey those three places
would be London, England; Venice, Italy; and Zakynthos Island, Greece. I would initially depart from Detroit, Michigan. My first flight would take
me to a place that has always been at the top of my list: London, England. I will stay in London for three full days which will allow me to see many
of the most popular sights. From London, I will fly to Venice, Italy and stay there for four days. Once I depart from Venice my final destination will be

This picturesque island is located in the Ionian Sea. While in Zakynthos I will be staying at Zante Calinica Hotel for a total of four nights which

drawers is a chargeable offense in Greece that can bring with it a steep fine or jail time." Although this law seems reasonable because pants should
be kept on, it is more of an oddity that a law needed to be made to prevent it in the first place. My first activity while on Zakynthos will be to go to
see the Blue Caves. These caves are popular due to the fact that they reflect the bright blue of the water onto the cave walls while the water reflects
the striking blue of the sky. This tourist spot can only be reached by the sea but it would be worth the ride to be able to see the striking beauty of
the Blue Caves. The second day would be spent on a boat trip to Marathonisi also known as Turtle Island. This excursion would allow me to
observe turtles while I snorkel in crystalline blue waters surrounded the Turtle Island beaches. The last journey I would take would be to Porto
Roxa Beach. This beach does not provide access to the sea because of dangerous waves, but sunbeds, rock jumping, and a small scattering of
restaurants would provide a stunning view and experience. My fourth day spent on Zakynthos would be a day of complete relaxation. I would go to a
popular and local beach on Zante to soak up the sand and sun on my final day in paradise. My time in Zakynthos would leave me rejuvenated and

Things were looking dire from the second the ship left the hangar. Great, he's flying me to my death. Surely this was all part of his plan. Steal a ship,

"Come on, get us in formation now!" he ordered, but that wasn't possible. One of the Reinigers was in pursuit and locked on.
The enemy ship was close, and his navigator couldn't outmaneuver them so he could line up a shot. He was probably just putting on some show of
being chased, so he could pretend he got captured or something. And at this rate, he wouldn't get a chance to fight back. The comms lit up, and the

now. Persephone seemed to be ignoring them. Hades wondered why he didn't just cut them

Personal Odyssey Lol

  • 1. personal odyssey lol There have been many places I've gone and people I've met that have changed who I am and still continue to affect me today. My home in Virginia, family in North Carolina and Maryland, and even going to school every day has shaped me as a person and has helped me open my eyes and learn how the real world is. Although some people may not realize it, but they could be a completely different person than who they were a few months ago. People, including me, are changing over time and the things they do and the people the meet effect who they become whether they like it or not. First, not only have I been to Northern Virginia, but I have lived here for fourteen years and counting. However, I am not necessarily happy about it, which brings me...show more content... Overall, I have become a more relaxed person than who I use to be, now that I have learned when I can't take a two day getaway with my father, I can always take a two minute getaway by myself whenever I want. I believe my downward spiral began in middle school, around 7th grade. The middle school I attended for three long, miserable years was Mercer Middle School. I absolutely hated the years that I spent in middle school – I didn't like the people I spent time with, I was extremely insecure and had no self–esteem, and spent most of middle trying to please society's definition of beauty. All I can remember about my years in middle school is how much time I wasted trying to impress and please people that probably didn't even know my name, which I believe resulted in me being diagnosed with an eating disorder. I got in trouble for plagiarism, was also diagnosed with depression and didn't remember a point when I wasn't in the guidance counselor's office. The best part about middle school was graduating considering they were the worst years of my 14 year life. Overall, while in middle school, I discovered that it's okay to let people help me once in a while because they usually just wants what's best for me. However, due to all of the help and "guidance" I've received in middle school, I do now find myself receiving help and going to seek "guidance" as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Odyssey : Autobiography Of My Odyssey My Odyssey Autobiography Version 2 Today is the day, finally time for us to get up and go. Time to live in adventure and see amazing features in the land around us. I have been waiting for this day ever since my parents first talked about it, I could not wait. It was finally time to go on our odyssey, even though we will be crowded and cramped up the whole ride it will be worth the wait. "Boys into the car" my dad yelled. I was still gathering all of my daily items like my toothbrush and my pills when he had said this. I shoved all of these items into my bag and ran as fast as my legs could carry me to the car. My face turned red, my palms started to...show more content... I fell asleep pretty much as soon as we were on the road. I jumped out of my seat to a loud scream in the car, from my youngest brother, Brendan. He wanted something to eat so my dad chucked a granola bar at him, if I was awake I could have just handed it to him instead of him getting food chucked at him. I looked out my window and realized that we were about 15 miles from Green Bay. To dodge Green Bay and its lunch time traffic, we merged on a highway that went around Green Bay. A little after we got onto that highway, we approached up to a Ford Explorer, and like anyone that you approach on a multi lane highway you merge to pass. So, she began to pass this vehicle and this other person approached behind us and began to honk. They were too lazy to turn off their speed control. So, my mom had to accelerate and merge right in front of the Explorer. Turns out it was a police car with hidden police lights, and it flashed at us. She thought that this car was trying to pull her over so she pulled over. I guess that it was just warning us to not pull right in front of them again, because it didn't even slow down after that. I began to feel drowsy again and fell asleep. I woke up a couple of hours later to a honking semi–truck. I asked "Where are we now?" "We are in Chicago and stuck work traffic." It probably took at least 2 hours and 30 minutes to speed back up to the speed limit; and during this time, we only went about 3 miles. My brothers began to fell more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Examples Of Personal Insights In The Odyssey Personal Insights: Telemachos physically and spiritually grows up in this chapter. He begins to gain characteristics that mirror his father, Odysseus. After Athena, the goddess, pays him a visit Telemachos gains confidence in his own abilities, " (page 13). This simile helps create the strengths of the gods and goddesses by adding to Athena's exit. Penelopeia is in so much distress after losing Odyesseus but she doesn't let up. P. deals with all the suitors very courageously she represents a powerful female figure in a time where women were not thought very highly of. • 4. Homer's The Odyssey-Personal Narrative As the day I awoke, I've known that my father has died and how it happened was a tragedy. I had a vision last night that I was being taken to Agamemnon. I knew that this was true, it was that I saw it coming. "I will be Agamemnon's to be bride" I shouted in my head. I only thought of what has happened so far. I was panicking over the war. Mymother queen Hecuba was worrying over us, I couldn't bare to watch my mother die, as I already saw of her fate. As we all were being taken to a man to tell us what will happen to us all. I heard the man say that my mother was going to be Odysseus slave. I heard her plead as much as she can to not be his slave, but nothing helped. I wanted to scream at him and say "You should know better than making us servants, we are royalty." but I couldn't because I knew my place, nothing would help. As I stood there stiffly having visions and being traumatized, they soon called to me. The man told my mother,"Cassandra is for Agamemnon". I sat there still with no sudden...show more content... I never thought of a horrific accident. As I came back to reality, Queen Clytemnestra was calling for me, for I knew that this was my fate. I stood there trying not to show fear. She took me to Agamemnon, dead she had an axe, just like the vision. " do you have mercy, please don't kill me I shall not die as a slave" I plead. "You'll die with your beloved one", says Clytemnestra in rage. She grabbed the axe and swung, I jerked a bit, but it was too late. " you shall pay for this, for these are my last words." I say. • 6. Response To The Odyssey Like Beowulf, the movie is a sort of fantasy since it has gods, goddesses, monsters and other creatures. A movie that made me laugh, sad, bored, excited, kilig and teary–eyed. It's just funny that, honestly, I got bored with the endless journey which Odysseus have. I even doubt if he will make it to Ithaca. Yet, he's willingness to see Ithaca is still strong. I admire the script writer of "The Odyssey" for its wonderful lines that really caught my attention and touched my heart. Lines telling us about the struggle of life that will mold us into a better individual. Lines where I thought "I want to be someone's Penelope" "I want to be someone's worth the wait..." Such lines full of valuing and...show more content... Lastly, my favorite line in this film was "I prefer to live my mortal life in the arms of my wife... rather than live forever without it." These words says how true love Odysseus have for her Penelope. He even refused being immortal just to be with her Queen. Truly, love conquers all. At the side of Penelope, she destroys the tapestry every night to avoid choosing among her suitors. For her, Odysseus will always be her King. Overall, the movie move around the long travel of Odysseus by the curse of Poseidon. In summary it can be just a lovestory but it put together different valuable lesson like love of Odysseus to his men or friendship despite the stubborness of them. The Giant Cyclops, the Witch, Calypso, entering the Kingdom of Dead, encounter the Scylla, Charybdis and the curiosity of Elpenor are the conflicts that prolonged his expedition. The journey that strengthens the love, trust, loyalty and faithfulness between Penelope and Odysseus. The journey that must be understood by all of us, and we will know the true meaning of life. My life is pretty good, but I have trials like most people in life do but that doesn't mean my life is bad. The Odyssey is symbolic of my life in many ways. It is symbolic because I have life goals like odysseus did to get back to Ithaka, I have perils and trials, I have someone who protects me Like Athena, and people who motivate me to meet my goal like Penelope and Telemakhos did. First reason why the odyssey is symbolic to my life is because I have life goals like Odysseus tries to get back to Ithaka. • 8. My Odyssey Essay : My Personal Odyssey My Personal Odyssey Throughout this class we have studied multiple types of heroes starting with Gilgamesh, then Odysseus, and then Aeneas. All of whom were individuals that exemplified strength, loyalty, and courage no matter the obstacles in their way. Additionally, they shared common skills such as being exemplarily military leaders, as well as being the leaders of their own houses. These characters, with the exception of Gilgamesh, were so heroic that they even traveled to the depths of hell in order to face death and show demonstrate their immense heroism. However, none of these heroes have influenced me as much as the philosophers that tackled the questions of morality and what it means to live the good life. "The difficult thing is not to escape death, I think, but to escape wickedness" (Apology, 528). For their respective cultures these epic heroes served as role models for what their citizenry was to strive to become, and their ancient journey's still contain teachable lessons for today. Although, everyone can't be the type of heroes that are displayed in these epics; I'm never going to be a military captain, found my own nation, or be the king of some domain. The characteristics that they display are translatable but are not always universally applicable to every situation. Although, I've learned we can always choose to do what we consider right or wrong. It doesn't matter if our legacy is eternal, nor should we consider Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Odyssey Reflection Paper Homer's The Odyssey is home to many classics within its pages. From the Cyclops, Scylla and a myriad of other creatures, The Odyssey is a classic in every sense of the word and its influence on modern day culture is plain to see. However, it wasn't just the monsters that drew people into Homer's tale, it was also characters. Describing the tale of Odysseus, who after winning a ten–year long war thanks to his quick wits and high intelligence. The story delves into his journey on trying to get back to his wife, Penelope and child, Telemachus. For twenty years, Odysseus sailed, fought and outsmarted many obstacles, losing most of his men in the process. And when he finally reaches his home, suitors trying to court his sorrowful wife, who ...show more content... Before Telemachus begins his journey, the goddess Athena watches over him from Olympus and decides to help him. However, she does not make herself know to Telemachus, instead she disguise herself as familiar faces to him. And it's these disguises that bring out Telemachus' character. Her first disguise is as an old friend named Mentor. "Then bright–eyed Athena, assuming Mentor's form and voice once more called Telemachus out of the palace to her side. 'Telemachus,' she said, 'your well–grieved companions are sitting at their oars, waiting for your word to start'"(Homer 25). This scene explains how Telemachus views Mentor. He not only sees him as a man to be trusted, but also heed the words of. Telemachus doesn't dissuade him or any of the like; he listens to his words and follows his instructions. Thus painting the idea that Telemachus knows this man well enough, that he is willing to follow his will in the middle of the night. However, there is something else that goes on. And that is the silent relationship of Telemachus and Athena. Touched on by Michael Murrin is his article Athena and Telemachus he goes into detail of the complex relationship between the two and explains, "In her disguise as Mentor, Athena does just what she promised to do in the divine assembly that begins The Odyssey. • 10. Odysseus-Personal Narrative Essay Her appearance is frustratingly confusing. She is the most hideous, yet beautiful creature ever to walk the Earth. Her eyes, the color of the sparkling sea during daylight, her hair dark brown, almost black, reaching her feet. Her skin is an unusually scaly texture. It is almost the color of the poisonous hyloxalus infraguttatus frog. A bit lighter, though. One can see her mouth consists of millions of tiny, sharp fangs which make her even more terrifying. Yet, when one gazes into her eyes they are pulled in by her baffling, almost goddess–like delicacy. All the more to beware of this cunning deceiver. Odysseus, seeing this alluring beauty for the first time, is astonished. He says, "You are the creature who made this journey so difficult...show more content... "But, of course––you must know! You truly do not? Well, alright. Let me run a few memories by you Man of Twists and Turns. You killed my father with that one sword––what was the name? Oh yes, I remember. The Kopis. You killed MY father. And now, you must prepare yourself. It is your turn to face death." And with that, Nadiya withdraws her Dark Sword. Simultaneously, Odysseus quickly whips out his Aulos, which was handed down to him by his father, and his father's father, and his father's father, and so on. He presses the smooth, wooden surface of the tube–shaped flute to his mouth and begins playing a swift tune. He slowly looks behind him and starts walking, being aware of anything that might hinder his movement. Nadiya and her faithful devotees, the Gorgons, begin to trail after him. He puts down the musical instrument, gets on his boat, and quickly uses the oars to push himself away from the dock, meanwhile the inhabitants of the land who followed Odysseus remained in a trance. Again, he picks up the instrument and continues to play. He is now far from shore, and Nadiya and the Gorgons are at the forefront of the crowd, promising an imminent death for themselves. Now, the only thing seen were the tops of their heads. Once they were fully submerged under water, Odysseus was assured that they were Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Personal Narrative: The Odyssey A few years back I was sailing the open ocean with my leader, Odysseus, and the rest of the crew heading home when Odysseus informed us that we would be taking the long route home. As we grew closer to a strange island, the wind stopped and the water became quiet. "Tie me to the sail post!" Odysseus yelled to us. I thought this was a bit odd of him but we followed orders. We began rowing and quickly as possible to get away from the dangerous song of the Sirens. We were rowing so fast the water looked like white caps. Then we began to hear the song. We knew if we listened to it long enough we would eventually be tempted to jump overboard to our death whether it be by the deadly rocks in the sea, drowning in the ocean, or washing up Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Personal Journeys In Homer's The Odyssey All heroes around the world go through a journey of their own. Those journeys can be a physical, , mental, emotional journey, and lots more. These types of personal journeys are demonstrated in an epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer, an interview, The Hero's adventure by Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers, a short poem, Courage by Anne Sexton, a graphic novel, The Odyssey by Gareth Hinds. They all show how journeys can be transformative and show a person's strengths and/or weaknesses. Anyone who takes a journey whether it's physical or mental, they transform in some way, revealing something about them. First, in an epic poem, The Odyssey, a brave, powerful leader,Odysseus transforms mentally, and becomes very wise and modest as he encounters challenges and many difficulties as he sails on his journey home from Troy. Odysseus has clearly transformed mentally in a positive way after he completes his journey. Second, in an interview, The Hero's Adventure, with Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers, the interviewee, Joseph Campbell thoroughly explains about heroes, the journeys they take and the importance of the journey. First, when Campbell is asked to define a hero, he saids, "Hero learns to experience the supernormal range of human spiritual life and then comes back with a message" (661). Heroes learn by experiencing abnormal situations, then, they come back improved, and developed. The three of us all had writing internships with the Odyssey Online, and we needed photos for our weekly articles. As a Chesapeake native, I was already quite familiar with the City of Norfolk; however, this trip showed me a depth to the city that I had never noticed before. My friend, Ludina, bubbled with excitement during our fifteen–minute drive to the city. "Guys! I'm just so thrilled! We are going on an adventure!" I always knew Barnes and Noble was a magical place full of words, stories, and life, but I never before understood that with the right people one's favorite place can transform into one's favorite moment in time. After staring at mesmerizing book jackets and intriguing titles, I found Ludinia in the cafГ©, and we both ordered frappuccinos, a rare treat that I only drink on special occasions. Michaela resurfaced from the shelves with three books and a pair of fuzzy socks. Her face beamed with excitement and wonder. I rarely meet people who become as enthusiastic over books as I do, and that was the moment that Michaela was no longer an acquaintance of mine–she was a new friend. We left Barnes and Noble with three new books, fuzzy socks, and sugar–induced brains. Still not ready to depart, we walked around the mall for a few more precious Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Odyssey Research Paper If I were given the chance to go on my own Odyssey to three different places the decision would be a difficult one. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to travel and explore various places across the world. If I had to make the choice of three places to visit on my Odyssey those three places would be London, England; Venice, Italy; and Zakynthos Island, Greece. I would initially depart from Detroit, Michigan. My first flight would take me to a place that has always been at the top of my list: London, England. I will stay in London for three full days which will allow me to see many of the most popular sights. From London, I will fly to Venice, Italy and stay there for four days. Once I depart from Venice my final destination will be ...show more content... This picturesque island is located in the Ionian Sea. While in Zakynthos I will be staying at Zante Calinica Hotel for a total of four nights which will cost me $1,208.00. An unusual law I came across in my research of Greece was that according to the website Reader's Digest, "Dropping your drawers is a chargeable offense in Greece that can bring with it a steep fine or jail time." Although this law seems reasonable because pants should be kept on, it is more of an oddity that a law needed to be made to prevent it in the first place. My first activity while on Zakynthos will be to go to see the Blue Caves. These caves are popular due to the fact that they reflect the bright blue of the water onto the cave walls while the water reflects the striking blue of the sky. This tourist spot can only be reached by the sea but it would be worth the ride to be able to see the striking beauty of the Blue Caves. The second day would be spent on a boat trip to Marathonisi also known as Turtle Island. This excursion would allow me to observe turtles while I snorkel in crystalline blue waters surrounded the Turtle Island beaches. The last journey I would take would be to Porto Roxa Beach. This beach does not provide access to the sea because of dangerous waves, but sunbeds, rock jumping, and a small scattering of restaurants would provide a stunning view and experience. My fourth day spent on Zakynthos would be a day of complete relaxation. I would go to a popular and local beach on Zante to soak up the sand and sun on my final day in paradise. My time in Zakynthos would leave me rejuvenated and stunned from the surrounded Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Homer's Odyssey-Personal Narrative Things were looking dire from the second the ship left the hangar. Great, he's flying me to my death. Surely this was all part of his plan. Steal a ship, sneak out in the confusion of the attack, and rejoin his kind with whatever military secrets he managed to steal. Hades really did want to follow through with his earlier threat, but he doubted he could fly the ship by himself, and the emergency autopilot wouldn't be able to get him away from this mess, anyhow. With his inevitable death looming just minutes, probably even seconds away, he figured he may as well make the most of the time he had left. If he was going to die, he was at least going to take some of these freaks down with him. He thrust his hands into the vat of goop between his legs, and the targeting arrays came to life. The guns had barely finished their...show more content... He heard his navigator's acknowledgement, and gave one of his own as well. Only three? That shouldn't be a problem. It didn't take long for him to realize that just one was more than enough of a problem, at least for a couple of rookies like them. "Come on, get us in formation now!" he ordered, but that wasn't possible. One of the Reinigers was in pursuit and locked on. The enemy ship was close, and his navigator couldn't outmaneuver them so he could line up a shot. He was probably just putting on some show of being chased, so he could pretend he got captured or something. And at this rate, he wouldn't get a chance to fight back. The comms lit up, and the dispatcher and the freaking Commander were demanding to know why they'd taken a ship out, you haven't been cleared yet, blah blah blah. "It wasn't my idea," he replied indignantly, almost yelling. Not the most professional or appropriate way to respond, but he didn't really have time to think of that now. Persephone seemed to be ignoring them. Hades wondered why he didn't just cut them Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Journey Of An Odyssey Trip Of My Own During an Odyssey trip of my own, I will be travelling to three different countries doing different things while I am there to visit. My first destination is London, United Kingdom while there I will be visiting the London Eye, Tower Bridge, and Trafalgar Square. My second place of interest for travel is Paris, France. While there to contain the boredom I will be a part of the tourist attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Canal Saint–Martin, and the Place des Vosges. Third in my plane route is Barcelona, Spain. There to experience the beauty of their country, I will be looking at the Magic Fountain of Montjuic; Placa de Catalunya and the Sagrat Cor. London is the first destination on my list. While there I will be staying at the Kensington Close hotel a three and a half star rating out of five rating. With the flight included in the price the flight to London and a hotel for 2 days is a total of $2,197 leaving $7,803 left to spend on the rest of the trip. After checking into the hotel sooner or later I will be visiting the London Eye by bus for $1.50 one way (total of $9.00 for all transportation by bus). The London Eye is a large Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London, With its outstanding view many people often take it to see what London looks like from the sky, also known as the "highest viewing point in London" states Wikipedia "The structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft)." • 18. My Odyssey Home-Personal Narrative We knew she had been sick for a while. It was the subtle tells, such as the wobbly knees and the lack of energy to even get up. It was inherently my choice: I could let her live in agony or put her to rest. I knew what the right thing to do was, but I was too selfish and stubborn to admit it. The night of the decision, I wept for her and what I was doing. I knew I wouldn't be able to hinder my thoughts on to anything other than my baby. That morning, I got up and got ready like I usually would, then I laid next to her and looked at her. I knew I was doing the right thing but I couldn't justify it. After school, I mosied along the sidewalk, dreading my odyssey home. I considered turning around but I knew I would have to face her eventually. ...show more content... Life doesn't last forever. No matter how much you yearn and pray that it does, it won't. And that is something that you need to accept. You can't cling desperately to something that is just out of your reach, for if you let yourself slip into the deep, dark pit of despair then you won't be able to pull yourself out again. This realization made me stop and think. No longer was I crying for the loss of my best friend, but for the fact that she wasn't in pain anymore and is in the best place possible. That day will never be lost in memory, nor the pain felt. Her tag still hangs around my neck, and will cease to ever come off again. This was the most irrevocably traumatizing day of my life, but I have learned so much from it. It has shown me the truth of life and death and how to overcome and push through Get more content on HelpWriting.net

One of my favorite topics that I explored was botany. My partner and I researched deeply about each plant, and we also went outside identifying them. I can now identify a lot plants because of what I learned. My interest for science kept on growing since then. Each thing that I learn fascinates me and I always want to learn more. That's all because of Science Olympiad. I also participated in a program promoting girls to learn and discover more about computer science. Project C.S. Girls was a different type of competition I participated in. Our team designed an app and a mini EV3 robot that collaborate as a personal fitness trainer. We were the finalists for our region and we were one of the regional winners. Our team went to the National Gala, and I had a great time there. One of my favorite things was learning HTML and CSS. C.S. Girls was a good experience overall. eCybermission was a program that I learned about at school. I was really interested in doing it, so I formed a team. Our team built and programed a robot that could sort mail. With our invention, mail delivery could be done faster and more accurately. We did fantastic in the competition.
