2. Exponential Equation:
y= a(b)x
a= the initial value
b= the growth or decay factor
Remember, when b>1, it is exponential growth.
If b<1 but greater than 0, then it’s exponential decay.

3. Graphing Exponential Functions

Step 1: Press y=, enter function.
Step 2: Graph to view picture.
(you may be able to eliminate answer choices).
Step 3: Press 2nd then graph to view the table.
Step 4: Plot the points on the graph.

4. Evaluating Exponential Functions
To evaluate functions we can substitute.
Evaluate f(2) for y=2(3)x.
Y=2(3)2 Substitute 2 for x.
Y=2(9) Simplify. 32=9
Y=18

5. To determine exponential growth or decay from
a table….
