5. CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT
Linking classical masculinity with current trends in technology and fashion
is at the core of the concept. Retail science and the exploration of
added service departments led to the devision and acquisition of the
various sectors. The floors are separated by design to draw the client
through the space and to create awareness of all the destination has
to offer. Display real estate has been motorized vertically to not only
draw attention to movement but to act as a dynamic work of art on
display that creates interest in the display itself and to pull the viewer
to follow its movement vertically.

37. RUPERT SPENCER LAW FIRM
An English law firm is set to open its door’s on American soil, and their
first US office is to be in New York city. A program was given of all the
required spaces and the square footage allocations of all the needed
departments. There was to be a clear identification of where the law
firm is from and be seen in their corporate identity.
CONCEPT
The concept behind the design for this law firm, was looking back into
the design and law history of the country and tyeing it in with the present
day features and also conceptualizing about the future. Integration was
very important in the use of classical or traditional elements tyeing in with
current trends and technology. Elements that seemed very British was
incorporated as well as objects and American culture and design.

55. Crystal Lobby
The Crystal Lobby is the student entrance to the New York School
of Interior Design situated on 28th street, between Park Avenue and
Third Avenue.
Concept & Parti
The concept originated with the idea of the diamond and crystal form.
It developed form the original crystalline form and its formation in a
subterranean cave. The idea is to evoke the feeling of an individual
crossing over the boundaries of an urban landscape through to an
abstract crystal cave.
The Floor plan
Shows entrance from 28th street, walking through the
crystal mass to the elevators.
Crystals
East Section Elevation
The crystals replicate a natural quartz crystal found in
nature with an abstract and contemporary edge.
Wall Formations
West Elevation
The shapes on the walls was built to enhance the
feeling of one moving though a cave with little linearity.
I observed the structure of a crystal and went on the
geometric pattern and nature of it to form the shapes
protruding from the walls.
59. Chappaqua Children’s Library
This is a library where fantasy comes to life, and blends with the realm of reality. The imagination and queriosities of the mind can play,
explore, cultivate and acquire.
The concept stems out of the need in every child to create a world where fantastical beings, worlds and powers, comes within their own reach.
This library is the unity of fairy tales that are tied together in a journey.
The journey starts at The Shire, where the computer room is, after is Hagrid’s Hut and reading rooms. A tea party is along the journey to
the enchanted forrest where the children can play and read their favorite book. In the center of the land are bookshelves in the form
of a maze after the form of a fingerprint, to guide them to their books.feeling of an individual crossing over the boundaries of an urban
landscape through to an abstract crystal cave.

cor-ten steel

The Claw Coffee Table is fabricated out of recycled oxidized steel, and 2
sheets of laminated glass.
Steel is the most recycled material on the planet, more than all other materials
combined. Steel retains an extremely high overall recycling rate, which in 2012,
stood at 88 percent.
The amazing metallurgical properties of steel allow it to be recycled continually
with no degradation in performance, and from one product to another. Even while
two out of every three tons of new steel are produced from old steel, it is still nec-
essary to continue to use some quantities of virgin materials. This is true because
many steel products remain in service as durable goods for decades at a time
and demand for steel around the world continues to grow.
Steel is the engine that drives the recycling of many consumer goods as can be
seen by the 92.5 percent recycling rate of automobiles, the 90 percent recycling
rate of appliances and the 72 percent recycling rate of steel packaging.
The steel sheets will be put through the Cor-Ten process of applying
an oxidizing chemical on the surface that protects the steel from
corrosion. The chemical substance reacts when
exposed to the elements, mostly moisture
and displays a variety of deep
oranges and warm colors.
laminated glass
The steel sheets will be welded in place and then buffed to have a smooth
finish. The steel itself will have a coarse texture to it. The two tempered glass
panels will be put in place by removing clamp pieces from the steel structure
and screwing them firmly in place.
The design of this piece also has a dual spiritual and social meaning. It relates to
the culmination of different cultures being bound together and forced to co-exist.
Only by working together with their individual strengths will it be unbreakable.
