1. The system is not the solution, but can
be the problem if constraints are not
made clear.
2. Building a cohort in CSOD is only 25% of
the total project time.
3. Collaborative learning is a culture
change. Make good use of 70:20:10
model. Minimise formal learning
activities and maximise use of group
learning via communities.

Lessons learned …
• Get involved from the analysis phase: Do not wait until it
is dropped to you in the roll out phase
• Engage from the start with stakeholders, learning
professionals
• Ensure the LNA includes a thorough audience analysis.
• There are three different generations in today’s
workforce. Each one learns differently and especially
millennials.
• How to you ensure all their learning styles and needs are
met?
• Consider your organisation's culture before designing
and roll out. Are your learners ready for such a learning
experience ?
• Ensure central and local priorities are aligned. Dropping
such a solution to a local organisation is a show stoper.
• Ensure leadership is aligned on all levels and see the
programme as priority, not just another L&D idea

Lessons learned … more
• Cohorts are still under development
• Ideal for on boarding
• Cohort learning objects are structured sequentially
• A cohort has a defined start datetime and end
datetime
• Delegates can withdraw from sessions within the
cohort, but cannot withdraw from the cohort.
• If a user is not completed for a session, on cohort end
date events and cohort remain incomplete
• It is an interative process if you are starting now. Mock
Up, demo, validate and again
• not design and then ask for how in system
• Collaborative learning is a culture change. Make
good use of 70:20:10 model. Minimise formal learning
activities and maximise use of group learning via
communities.
• Building a cohort in CSOD is only 25% of the total
project time.

Lessons learned …even more
• Operationally ideal for push
• Pull only if not learning as a team
• Moderate - Engage- Motivate (Make them come, make
them stay, make them stick)
• Establish moderation guidelines
• Use as medium not storage area
• Facilitator's role extends out of the classroom
• Facilitators create postings, do not send emails to learners
• Frequently post questions on progress, motivators, quizzes,
articles, polls etc.
• Establish ownership of cohorts: owner is responsible for
content quality and community moderation
• The same group of people starts and ends the cohort
including all sessions.
• When push mode, register delegates on all sessions and
then on the cohort
• Do not lock learning objects unless disruptive on learning
experience
• Trigger only cohort registration and only sessions system
emails. Use the community for all other learning related
communication

Things to consider
• Marketing people are creative and visual.
Can you ensure a smooth, easy and
engaging user experience? How?
• There are three different generations in
today’s workforce. Each one learns differently
and especially millennials. How to you ensure
all their learning styles and needs are met?
• Do you have all content at your disposal
before built?
• What content updates are foreseen?
• Is the organisation ready to support this?
• Can the operational process support this
design?
• Is your organisational culture ready to roll this
out?
• What are the biggest obstacles?
