J.K. Rowling: How She Handled Rejections
Do you know Harry Potter? Do you know the name of the
writer behind the Harry Potter books? J.K. or Joanne Kathleen
Rowling is only one of the many persons in the world who
experienced failures, rejections, and defeats but never gave up.
J.K. Rowling was poor, divorced, and was raising a child on
her own when she wrote the first book of the Harry Potter
on a manual typewriter. Her manuscript was rejected twelve
times by book publishers. Finally, a publisher agreed to publish
her book but advised her to get a regular job because there is
no money in children's books.
Today, her books are not only bestsellers but have also
been made into blockbuster movies.

One of the values that you need
to develop as a student is
perseverance. When you know how to
persevere, you will not only be
successful in your studies but also in
your every endeavor. What does it
mean to persevere?
Perseverance is a value that
refers to your strong determination
and self-discipline to complete a task
in spite of challenges and obstacles.
You persevere when you keep on
working on a particular task until it is
finished.
26. 26
For example, you practice
perseverance when you keep on
working on your homework or project
until it is done. You do not put off for
tomorrow what you can do today.
When you get low scores in a test, the
subject must be studied harder.
Ask help from your teacher,
parent, or classmate so that you will
understand the topic better. To
persevere means not giving up on a
task and giving your best in what you
do.
27. 27
In terms of your weakness, you do
not just say "This is the way, I am and
there is nothing I can do about it." Be
humble enough to change for the better
and accept it when you are corrected, by
your elders or your attention is called for
doing something bad.
Forming your values is crucial
during these years and you need the
perseverance to strive to build your
character.
Persevere and Sir Abraham Lincoln,
say: "I do the very best I know how, the
very best I can, and I mean to keep on
doing so until the end."
