2. Mourning Becomes Electra is a
play cycle written by American
playwright Eugene O'Neill.
The story is a retelling of the
Oresteia by Aeschylus. The
characters parallel characters
from the ancient Greek play.
As a Greek tragedy made
modern, the play features
murder, adultery, incestuous
love and revenge, and even a
group of townspeople who
function as a kind of Greek
chorus.
Mourning Becomes Electra is
divided into three plays with
themes that correspond to the
Oresteia trilogy.

4. With "Oedipus Complex",
Sigmund Freud originated the
theory that children of ages up
to 5 are sexually desirous of
the parent of opposite gender.
During this phase, the kids
respond with a certain level of
jealousy and rivalry.
Freudian model of Oedipus
complex, if "Mourning
Becomes Electra", is a tale of
incestuous love, hatred,
jealousy and adultery, then, in
the first place, all such may be
attributed to Orin and her
mother Christine.

6. Lavinia's love for her
father is so deep rooted
that she is willful in
rejecting the genuine
love of Peter saying: "I
can't marry anyone,
Peter. I've got to stay
home. Father needs me".
the tone in which she
speaks is enough to
reveal the deep
psychosexual jealousy of
Lavinia.
Its clearly presents
Electra complex.

9. AS per title suggest
Electra complex here
over powering Oedipus
complex.
Overpowering of Electra
complex reflects in
character of Lavinia that
she ruined everything
and everyone's life
because of her feelings
towards her father and
she took revenge on the
other hand Orin also
feels for his mother but
he do not go on that
extant.
