son on a shoemaker and a
washerwoman.
His birthday on April 2 is
celebrated as the
International Children's
Book Day.
Tried to be an actor on the
Royal Theater of
Copenhagen with no
success.
4. Recognition
Accepted at the University of Copenhagen in 1928.
Was mostly known for children's stories, but also
wrote plays, poems and autobiographies.
His stories portrayed the victory of good against evil.
5. Andersen was an innovator and broke with the
literary tradition using idioms and constructions of
the spoken language.
Example:
-But at last the eggshells began to crack, one after
another. "Peep, peep!" said the little things, as
they came to life and poked out their heads.
