2. Hansel and Gretel
The Hansel and Gretel tale is very
similar to the red riding hood tale in the
fact that it explores the confinement of
young children whether that be
mentally or physically. These youngsters
fall into the illusions of adult predators.
They fall victim to the antagonists
cunning plans.
These children also always tend to be
alone and in this case, the characters
were feeling isolated due to their
mother’s death. In my film, Red could be
visiting her grandma who is ill and on
the verge of dying. This would be great
character build up as it demonstrates
the vulnerability to the young girl.
3. Goldilocks
The tale of Goldilocks is remarkably
different to the other tales because this
time, it shows the young character in a
bad light. Goldilocks is seen as reckless
and greedy but perhaps taking a more
abstract approach to this scenario can
provide information as to why she
behaves in this way.
What ponders my thoughts is why does
Goldilocks eat food, and look for shelter
in the bears home. All these things
offering comfort. Has she run away from
home or does not have paternal
figures? A lack of love may be the
reason for her unruly actions. In my film
Red could possibly be very close to her
dying grandmother and for consolation,
she may resort to substance abuse.
