Just in Shanghai and Beijing, there are
more than 300 thousand expats and the
numbers are increasing, causing an
increased demand for help in daily home
life before they master the Chinese
language.
The State Administration for Industry and
Commerce showed that there were 117 million
self-employed people in 2015, a 47% increase
from 2011. This growing trend has indicates a
large number of home-based people who have
valuable unused resources.

Meituan is the world's largest online and on-demand delivery platform with 240 mil consumers and 5 mil local merchants in China. But it has some weaknesses that Hommies can gain advantage over them. 1) Their service is to local Chinese only, no English version and not supporting any other language; 2) Meituan’s commission rates are too high for small businesses and home-based service providers to join and sustain profitability. Our second key competitor is a start-up company Home-Cook, which is an App linking home cooks with consumers and offers deliveries services. But they also do not support English or any foreign languages. And secondly it has been targeting the wrong home-cook audience. The App was promoted only in Beijing’s city-center communities to financially well-off housewives and elders, i.e. people who don’t really need extra earnings. They use the App occasionally just to try out new things and have fun. The App cannot reach out to the large working class and multi-generation communities who really have a need for such service.
