WEBINAR ON FACUTLY DEVELOPMENT .pptx
1. Being relevant
• Are we relevant to the industry is the question
and if so are we making our students relevant to
the industry… indeed the market is changing very
quickly and is very dynamic. Hence we need to
make changes that can make our students agile
and fast adoptable to the changing market
situation.
• Therefore we need to make ourselves relevant
and updated or up-to minute to the needs of the
situation
1
2. Making things happen
• The world wide data speaks of certain interesting
facts of the internet: The highest browsing speed
is in between 11.pM to 3.00am
• It also indicates that students are keen on
viewing the net during the night time and at their
own pace and comfort level
• therefore we need to prepare content that they
would be comfortable to read and learn as per
their availability and functionality of their devices

3. How do we make ourselves better
applying Metcalfe’s law
• Metcalfe’s Law
• “Metcalfe’s Law” says that a network’s value is proportional to the
square of the number of nodes in the network. The end nodes can
be computers, servers and simply users. For example, if a network
has 10 nodes, its inherent value is 100 (10×10=100). Add one more
node, and the value is 121. Add another and the value jumps to
144. Non-linear, exponential, growth.
• Network effects have become an essential component of a
successful digital businesses. First, the Internet itself has become a
facilitator for network effects. As it becomes less and less expensive
to connect users on platforms, those able to attract them in mass
become extremely valuable over time. Also, network effects
facilitate scale. As digital businesses and platforms scale, they gain a
competitive advantage, as they control more of a market. Third,
network effects create a competitive advantage.

4. Hence we need to create some thing
beyond…
• We need to use tools that are having very high
leverage and duplicability.
• As Google pay $18 for every 1000 on line
subscription done by viewers. Hence we as
faculty members need to utilize these
concepts for making an additional income for
ourselves
• Technology is a great leveler and hence can
change things faster in our favour
4
5. Indeed we need to understand the
speed of computers and work in that
direction
• What Is Moore's Law?
• Moore's Law refers to Moore's perception that
the number of transistors on a microchip doubles
every two years, though the cost of computers is
halved. Moore's Law states that we can expect
the speed and capability of our computers to
increase every couple of years, and we will pay
less for them. Another tenet of Moore's Law
asserts that this growth is exponential
5
6. As the speed doubles- IT-income
doubles
• Let us look at a software Industry- income… it
doubles as the industry generates greater
value to the customer.
• Philip Kotler says: The very organizations
purpose is to create value, communicate value
and deliver value.
• Hence as speed of computers increases the
value deliver doubles and hence the income in
the entire value chain of the IT industry
6
7. As a faculty we need to focus on these
lines
• As a value chain in the knowledge industry
• As a greatest value creator by creating
excellent men and women of the future
• Hence need to earn the highest- which does
not happen in general
• Faculty need to measure their performance in
terms of their end delivery and the resultant
benefit to the society and industry in general
7
8. Measuring a faculty’s performance
• Income that she or he generates
• Resultant value in terms of the patents and
designs that are developed by an individual
• Passive income that one can generate due to
patents, copy rights (IP rights) that an
individual can create
• Better problem solving and a satisfied society
8
9. UP GRADING THE FACULTY
• It is not only the duty of the faculty to upgrade
himself or herself but also the duty of all stake
holders to help him or her to upgrade:
example: government, institutions,
independent research institutes etc, should
help an individual to come up and hence
should be mentored/nurtured for better
productivity
9
10. Conclusion
• Faculty shapes the society
• Society shapes a nation in general
• A better society contributes to world peace
and order
• Therefore one needs to focus on the best that
is possible
• One should create people to build people
