6. Audio Engineering Society
● Founded in the United States in 1948 dedicated
exclusively to audio technology
● It is an international organization uniting audio
engineers, creative artists, scientists and students
worldwide by promoting advances in audio
knowledge and research
● Over 12,000 members affiliated with more than 75
professional sections and 95 student sections
● Section activity includes guest speakers, technical
tours, demonstrations and social functions
7. Audio Engineering Society - Membership Criteria
● Anyone active in audio engineering or
acoustics
● Must have an academic degree or the
equivalent in a scientific or professional
experience in audio engineering or its
allied arts
● Must be familiar with the application of
engineering principles and the data in
that field
● $125 a year
8. Other Membership Categories/Requirements
● Associate Member- a person interested in audio engineering but does not yet
have a degree; cannot vote or hold office
● Student Member- can apply during or up to a year after graduation ($50),
after graduation a student may receIve a graduation discount of 35% off a
regular membership
● Life Member- Must be a paid member in good standing and a member of the
AES for five or more years. At 65 years of age a member is eligible for a
lifetime membership and is also exempt from the yearly fee

● A potential member must submit their music to the federation
● There is a $65 federation fee, a fee to join your local chapter (ex. $110 for
AFM local 6) and $52.50 for the current quarter’s dues
