OWNER OF DENIE DESIGN STUDIO
Since 2002, DDS has provided commercial design services starting from initial design concept, construction
drawings, permitting, and bidding through construction admin., until user occupancy. DDS is involved
mostly in restaurant, retail and high-end office spaces. Clients are referred from ongoing developer
relationships to repeat restaurant or retail ownership.
For a new chapter in my career I’ve decided to pursue relationships solely from the construction or
developer/retail side of our industry. This past year, I thought about Denie Design Studio’s logo
"Conception to Completion" and which part do I truly enjoy. My answer was "Completion"…seeing the
design come to life during construction and the relationships built during this time or at the beginning when
a client is introduced to a new space, looking for all it’s potential.
SKILLS The following services are typically provided by Denie McLaren during each project:
Schematic/design development for space (commercial kitchen design also provided for restaurant).
Assemble all consultants involved to achieve design intent (M/E/P, Structural, Civil, Landscape).
Create permit, bid and construction drawing sets in AutoCad.
Attend developer, community and/or city meetings to present project (new, historic or renovation).
Apply for all permits, including health department or zoning permits.
Create HACCP’s and SOP’s for health department if requested for restaurant use.
Consult with owner for selection of qualified contractors or sub-contractors
Organize pre-bid meetings and answer questions promptly.
Review bid submissions with owner
Hold pre-construction meeting prior to commencement of work.
Attend construction meetings to review progress, budget and change orders.
Quick to make on-site decisions as needed to keep project on schedule and on budget.
Communicate with sub-contractors via RFI & supplement drawings as needed.
Deal with contractor/owner or contractor/sub-contractor situations if issues arise during construction.
Provide final punch list and monitor to achieve owner satisfaction.
Proficient in Outlook, Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCad. Able to quickly learn new software as needed.
