2. hello!
I am Denisha Pelyhe
I am a pre service educator and this is my reflection of
some of the teaching strategies that I used in the
classroom during a recent practicum.
3. 1.
Setting Goals
This is not something that I did initially with students but I quickly learnt
that simply telling students what we are about to learn in the lesson is a
highly effective way of focusing their attention on the key learning goal.
4. “It can be done simply by saying
something along the lines of : “ Today we
are going to learn about another 2D
shape – triangles”
5. 2.
structured lessons
Students thrive on structure – especially in kindergarten. Having a
simple lesson structure will keep the lesson progresing smoothly.
The structure should include:
✘An effective introduction
✘A body
✘A conclusion that sums up learning and highlights key points
6. 3. Explicit teaching
This is key to being a good teacher. I
realised that vital information should be
conveyed in simple, short, sharp lessons
that align with students attention span.
7. 4. Using multiple exposures
Through the use of ICT and other
multiple exposures, students
remain engaged and are more
likely to remember content!
8. I must remember to say thanks when a
student puts themselves out there and has
a go instead of focusing only on the
answer!
??Effective use of questioning??
This works in many ways. It serves as a formative
assessment to gauge students funds of knowledge. It
gets students thinking and also helps them remain
focused and on task.
9. Note to self –
remember to
use
differentiated
teaching
10. Teaching strategies I would like to develop further
Feedback – I
would like to
think of better
ways to give
students
feedback
Practice –
improve on
lesson timing
and allow time
for students
to process
Collaborative
learning – I
would like the
opportunity to
mix up student
groups based on
lessons
11. Thanks for reading my
reflections on
teaching strategies
This presentation is a summary of my personal reflections of teaching strategies following
my primary school experience.
