10. CUSTOMER PERSONA – HOU LONG
• Name – Hou Long
• Tagline – “I just want to play games and hang out
with friends.”
• Demographics – 23yrs, single, male, works for a customer service helpline
• Psychographics – Wants an environment where he can interact with friends as well as engage in action-
type gameplay. Bored with current games.
• Behavioristics – Not terribly picky, but he won’t go after something unless it interests him or benefits
him in some way.
12. HOU LONG - CUSTOMER SCENARIO
• Hou Long wakes up remembering how tired he’s become of his current games, yesterday has become particularly boring. He’s been playing
the same quests, defeating the same monsters, and collecting the same items. Not to mention, some of the games he plays don’t allow
character customization. So, after a quick shower and breakfast, he gets dressed and opens up the app store on his phone. Hou Long searches
for a new game by looking up the key words “Mythology Based Role Playing Game”. He figures he could probably find an interesting game if
he looked one up that played into his interest in mythology. After searching he spots the game MythosOnline. Hou downloads the app and
starts the free trial, figuring he has nothing to loose if he ends up not liking the game.
• So he downloads the app onto his phone and taps on the (icon description) icon. The next thing he saw was MythosOnline’s splash screen.
The splash screen looked like(description here). After the splash screen went away, he was taken to the game’s login screen. The login page
was fairly simple, consisting of two text fields, one for the username, and the other for the password. Below the username and password
boxes, there was a button labeled login. After entering his login information, he pressed the login button and the game loaded the avatar
creation screen. The avatar creation screen starts with a male and female blank base for him to choose from. Hou Long chooses the male
avatar base. Once he choose his avatar base, the game prompted him to choose a skin color for his avatar. He choose a pale color for his
avatar’s skin. Next the avatar creator loaded up a screen with more options to customize the avatar’s appearance. The screen displayed Hou’s
avatar standing on the left with a box with multiple option tabs to the right. The first option is hair and shows about ten or so different,
common and uncommon hairstyles and gives a small color pallet to choose a hair color from. Hou choose a short style in the color navy. The
next option is eye style and displays about ten or so different styles and eye shapes as well as allowing eye color selection. Hou choose a
vampire-like eye style in the color red. The next tab is labeled “misc.”, and shows various different tails, wings, and ears for designing his
avatar. He chooses a pair of navy wolf ears to adorn his avatar’s head. Then he clicked the next button and continued on with the next section
of avatar creation. The final part of the avatar maker, gave Hou options for clothing his avatar. Like screen before it, the clothing selection
screen has Hou Long’s avatar on the left, with a box to the right that has multiple tabs with the options of “Tops”, “Bottoms”, ”Dresses”,
“Shoes”, ”Accessories” and “Weapons”. Hou looks through the first few tabs, selecting a nice, dark armor set to adorn his avatar. Once he
reaches the last tab, Hou equips his avatar with a black katana. Once he was done, Hou pressed the button labeled Finish Avatar, and the
game’s map loaded up.
13. • Once the game world had loaded in, Hou found himself in the MythosOnline’s main map. His avatar stood in the center of the
screen. There was a button on the screen for chatting, options, and a button for guild/party management on the side of the
screen, Hou tapped the screen and saw that simply touching the screen was how you moved in the game’s world. He explored
the map for a few minutes, taking in what the game’s world looked like when he saw a monster appear on screen. Hou Long
tapped on the monster and the game loaded up a combat screen. On the combat screen his avatar was to the left and the
monster stood to the right. He tapped the monster and his character attacked it. The monster fought back, but he kept
attacking until it was defeated. Once the monster had been defeated, he was presented with a reward screen showing what
he had earned for defeating it.
• He continued exploring the map and defeating monsters until eventually, Hou Long came across some of his friends who have
also downloaded the game. He reconised them from their usernames, they used the same username in all the games that
they played. He tapped on his friend’s avatars and entered a multi-user chat with them. In the chat screen, Hou Long’s avatar
was on the left of the screen, and his friend’s were to the right. At the bottom of the screen was a text field for him to type
out messages and in the space between his and his friend’s avatars was a space that gradually filled with comic styled text
bubbles as he chatted with his friends. Ultimately, he decided to start up a guild for him and his friends, so they could play and
hunt together in game. When he was done talking to his friends, he tapped the exit button on the chat screen and tapped on
the guild/party button. A box popped up with an various guild/party related options. Hou tapped on the new guild option,
and the game presented him with a text field for naming his guild, writing a short description for the guild, and an option to
make it public or private. Hou called his guild the “Legend Hunters”, described it as a guild for his friends, and himself, and he
set his guild to private. After he pressed create, he was taken back to the main options box for guilds, except all of the options
centered around the guild he had made. He entered his friend’s usernames into the invite box for his guild and waited for
them to accept. Once his friends had joined him, he went on and continued hunting with his friends.
• As Hou collects more and more equipment to decorate his avatar, he notices how many cool items are in the game. Around
the end of his free trial, Hou decides to start a subscription, so that he can continue to hang out with his friends, explore the
world of MythosOnline, and collect all the cool items he wants.

• Psychographics – Wants something simple and quick to play so she can multitask work with socializing.
• Behavioristics – Hardworking and diligent, but also fun loving and highly social. Biggest motivations
include increases in her circle of friends or her own personal popularity.
18. KASANE TETO - CUSTOMER SCENARIO
• Kasane Teto wakes up in the morning, and gets ready for the day. She showers, puts fresh clothes on, brushes her teeth and
has breakfast. While eating breakfast, one of her friends sends her a text. Happy to chat with her friends, she strikes up a
conversation. During the conversation, the topic of games comes up and Teto’s friend suggests a game called MythosOnline.
Her friend explains that it’s a mythology based RPG-like social game. Interested by her friend’s recommendation, Teto checks
out the game on the app store. She sees that the game can be downloaded and tried for free, so she figures that it wouldn’t
hurt to try the game at least. She downloads the game and signs up for an account, and logs in.
• Once the app finishes downloading onto her phone, she presses the app icon and the game app starts. The first thing she sees
is MythosOnline’s splash screen, which looks like (description here). After the splash screen fades away, she is taken to the
game’s login page. The login page consists of a simple two type field boxes labeled username, then password with a button
labeled login below and a simple, dark blue background. Teto types in her username and her password and presses the login
button. The game then loads up it’s avatar creation screen. The avatar creation screen starts with a male and female blank
base for Teto to choose from. Teto chooses the female avatar base, as she wants it to resemble her slightly. Once she chooses
her base, the game prompts her to choose a skin color for her avatar. She choose a pale color for the avatar’s skin. After
choosing her avatar’s desired gender, the avatar creator loads up a screen with more options to customize her avatar’s
appearance. The screen displays her avatar standing on the left with a box with multiple option tabs to the right. The first
option is hair and shows about ten or so different, common and uncommon hairstyles and gives a small color pallet to choose
a hair color from. Teto chooses a curly ponytail style and makes it purple. The next option is eye style and displays about ten
or so different styles and eye shapes as well as allowing eye color selection. Teto chooses wide, moe styled eyes that she also
colors purple. The next tab is labeled “misc.”, and shows various different tails, wings, and ears that Teto can put onto her
avatar, she decides not to choose from any of the options and presses next on the avatar maker screen.
19. • The final part of the avatar maker, gives Teto options for clothing her avatar. Like screen before it, the clothing selection screen has Teto’s avatar on the
left, with a box to the right that has multiple tabs with the options of “Tops”, “Bottoms”, ”Dresses”, “Shoes”, ”Accessories” and “Weapons”. Teto went
through both of the first two tabs, both showing about ten or so options for tops and bottoms respectively, but none of them really caught her eye. She
pressed on the dresses tab and immediately saw a night sky themed dress she liked and she equipped it onto her avatar. Happy with her dress, she
pressed on the shoes tab and equipped the matching shoes, then she went into the accessories tab and looked through the twenty or so accessory bits
the game had to offer. Accessories seemed to be a bit of a miscellaneous tab, as anything that didn’t belong in the other tabs was shown there. Teto
equipped a golden necklace onto her avatar and moved onto the weapons tab. Nothing really caught her eye, so she simply equipped her avatar with a
simple dagger. Once she was done, Teto pressed the button labeled Finish Avatar, and the game’s map loaded up.
• Once she was on the game’s default/initial map, she immediately started looking around for her friend. Her friend had told her over text what her
username was and where she’d meet her on the game’s main map. The game’s interface was fairly simple, you tap or hold on a spot on the screen to
make your character move around, and the game’s camera centers around your character to make maneuvering around the map easier. Once Teto
spotted her friend, she started a chat with her. She pressed on her friend’s avatar, and the game’s one-on-one chat screen loaded up. The one-on-one
chat screen was a bit similar to the character creation screen, as it featured Teto’s avatar on the left, but instead of a box with avatar design options, her
friend’s avatar was on the right. On the bottom was a text field for her to type chat messages to her friend. As she started chatting it up with her friend,
text bubbles filled the screen, each one looking like a speech bubble in a comic book, so it looked like the two avatars were talking to each other. The
messages filled the space above the text field and in between the avatars. When she was done chatting with her friend, she exited out of the chatting
screen. After exploring the games map for a bit more she soon realizes that most of her friends are playing the game, so she starts using the game as
her main way of interacting with her online friends. Once she sees that her friends are all playing the game, Teto forms a guild and invites her friends to
it.
• After exploring for a bit more, Teto notices nice items and equipment on other avatars. She decides to go into the chat, and after tapping on the chat
icon to see that main/open chat, a box opens up on the screen with various messages attached to their usernames. She asks about where people get
their cool equipment from, as she didn’t remember seeing any of it from the avatar maker. The other users tell her about the equipment that they
received from combat, or as a special prize from a contest, or as something that they bought from the game’s online store. Teto exited out of the chat
screen, and explored the game’s map some more. Eventually she encountered a few monsters, and defeated them. After killing a good few monsters,
Teto sees that she had been rewarded with a pretty looking necklace item. She tapped on the options tab, and went into the Edit Avatar option. On the
Edit Avatar screen, it was similar to the avatar builder, but the only items available were ones she currently had on her account. She equipped the
necklace and saved her avatar. Then, she decided to look into the avatar contests she heard about from the chat. Seeing that the game held contests
were users could vote on avatars for various catagories, she decides to go out and grind in game to collect nice equipment, then she starts getting into
the contests. As she reaches the end of her free trial, Teto decides to subscribe to the game, because it offers her a new and fun way to interact with
her online friends.
