WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
2. Computer Science is the discipline that seeks to build a
scientific foundation for such topics as computer design,
computer programming, information processing, and
algorithm development and analysis.
Engineering is the principled application of science,
methods, tools, and experience to the production of
designed objects.
Engineering Technology is the profession in which a
knowledge of mathematics and sciences gained by
education, experience, and practice is used to create and
enhance technologies.
Technicians often work with engineers as part of an
engineering team. Technicians install and maintain
products, providing a wide range of services:
implementation of the design, testing, calibration and
supervision of its operation
3. BACHELOR VS. ASSOCIATE DEGREES
• Community colleges offer 2 year degrees
because it is a difficult process to get a 4 year
accredited BS program in engineering
technology.
• BS programs require instructors with a higher
level of experience and education, meaning a
higher salary for graduates.
• First 2 years of BS program focuses on building
skills. After that the focus is creative design.
5. WHY AN ENGINEER TECHNOLOGY MAJOR
Engineers technologist specialize. For example, some may focus on
designs, others on implementation, and others on testing. Others do
something completely different. Thus, engineers typically do greatly
different things based on the phase of a project.
Engineering Technology major – Should you stick to an engineering
Technology Major? Yes, it's easily the most demanding major in
college - that's why there are usually shortages of engineers. Those
majoring in Engineering Technology with a BS degree can easily start
with a $54,000 paycheck right out of school.
