2. Velocity magazine is all about bikes, the city and – most
importantly – people.
It’s about people who make and enjoy our buildings and spaces.
It’s about people who love to ride, wherever they are. And it’s about
people who design the cityscape for those who want to share it with
other cyclists, pedestrians and drivers, with courtesy and style.
Each issue we’ll take a look at a key new building that has been
designed with the integration of good cycling facilities in mind. We’ll
have interviews with leading lights from the built environment who
are trying to make a difference. And there will be much more besides:
lessons from abroad, cartoons, the latest on cycling and health, plus
regular columnists including Peter Murray and Leanne Tritton, as well
as the favourite rides of architects, developers, agents and engineers
– all delivered with a progressive design and a sense of innovation
and consideration, mixed with a good, healthy pinch of levity.
Velocity magazine – or V, for short – is taking the city forward. We
hope you’ll come too.

About us
David Taylor is a writer and editor of magazines and books about
architecture, property and design. He has been editor of the New
London Quarterly for the last seven years, and is author of books
including Volume, Continued, Plus and The Right Formula – the story
of the National Graphene Institute. But ever since he was 6 he has been
just as interested in front and rear mech, classic Peugeot tops, Greg
Lemond and Bernhard Hinault. So, after meeting Toby Fox on one of
Club Peloton’s charity rides down to the MIPIM property conference
in Cannes, Velocity magazine was born. David lives in Brighton and
rides a Planet X/Lynskey, Focus Cayo, Trek and Brompton (but is
always open to acquiring more, N+1 and all that).
Toby Fox has been publishing magazines for over a decade, having
started as a journalist penning stories about computing, airport retail
and luxury goods before venturing to the other side of the tracks.
He heads up 3Fox International, which he founded in 2004, and
which works with local authorities and their private sector partners to
support development and regeneration programmes. His firm also gets
involved with consultation and events, including Sitematch – which
puts together “speed dates” for developers and local authorities. Fox
lives in Sutton and is a relatively late convert to the world of cycling
but, given his Strava stats, is rapidly making up for lost time. He rides
(and occasionally falls off) a Wilier Triestina GTR Gran Turismo, and,
around town, a Brompton.
3. You’ve heard of Sex and the City. Well, we’re more Bikes and the
City, each issue jam-packed with articles on buildings and spaces
of note which are taking cycling forward in London, across the UK,
and abroad, as well as the people who make them happen. It will be
engaging, informative, but without the ‘worthiness’ that can plague
other magazines in this field. It will look at cycling and the city in
the round, rather than blindly concentrating on cliques or tribes.
And in an age of ever more journalistic defections to screens alone,
our main output will be a beautifully designed hard copy that we
hope readers will keep and return to over many months.
V good. Chapeau!

The Velocity reader is a cyclist involved in the property industry.
Kit is expensive and our reader tends to be a senior developer,
investor, architect or advisor. They make decisions about cycling
infrastructure and how cycling is incorporated into building design.
They also buy bikes and cycling kit, commute to work, ride for
pleasure at weekends, and/or take part in corporate and other
sportives. No other publication directly targets this market.
Velocity magazine costs £10 per issue. All 800 Club Peloton (www.
clubpeloton.org) members receive the magazine free as part of their
membership. A free-to-access website will offer online and email
contact with a database of 45,000-plus property professionals. Using
these audiences, Velocity will build a subscription base of 1,000
within a year.
Velocity is a new kind of publication and a limited number of special
Velocity sponsor partnerships are available, offering:
