business achievements in 2013. Provide specific measurable results.
David Flores worked as Machine Operator in the Robo Drill department in 2012. He was hired to work
for the Lean Manager, Randell Reynolds, promoted David in 2013 as a Lean Practitioner because he
showed such promise as a natural leader and trainer participating in Kaizen events, participating in 5S
projects throughout 2013. Since David is bi-lingual fluent in Spanish and English, he is able to train 5S,
lean manufacturing techniques, and continuous improvement to a diverse group of people. He trained
2. the Deburr, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Production, and other departments in 2013. He
writes work instructions for various teams.
One of the most significant projects he led was 5S and organization of the department in Hardware to
improve throughput 30%. Prior to this activity there was a bottleneck in Detail because it was in such
disarray due to the ramp up in business.
David has helped improve communications of productivity in 2013. He created white boards and digital
message boards so that each employee and contractor in the Deburr and Detail areas know their
personal contribution to productivity in the department.
Q2: Behavior: Using examples wherever possible, describe why this employee / team is being nominated
for the More on the Floor award. How does this employee / team demonstrate-brand behavior that is
aligned with our Values and demonstrated collaboration to reach business goals?
David Flores is a team player. When the Deburr department needed assistance from Singapore,
Portland, and Austin, he worked with Jason Marfil, our Rising Star nominee to create work instructions
to help on-board new employees and contractors for the HR department. The two of them volunteered
their services at 7:00 p.m. at night without being asked. The two worked together to help Randy
Reynolds and HR to welcome the Celestica employees. David is very agile and adaptive. He is well
organized and can multi-task and set priorities when customer demands change on an hourly or daily
basis.
David is very goal oriented and can easily adapt to change. He can help the team members see what
the goals are of the organization so the complex mechanical, specifically precision can see the changes
from D&H a private organization transformation to Celestica, a multi-billion dollar publically held
company. The changes have not been accepted by everyone but David and other like Jason Marfil are
part of the future success of the company. David was the second runner-up for the Rising Star Award.
Fremont Warm springs has a very diverse workforce; Europeans, Hispanics, Vietnamese, Caucasians,
women and men, different age groups. David is well respected by all levels of the organization and
viewed as a future leader because of his commitment and long hours and weekend work. No task is too
small for David.
Q3: Alignment: Briefly describe how the individual or team contributed to any of Celestica's Game plan
objectives (transformation, financial results, people & development and profitable growth).
3. Since David is fluent bilingual in Spanish and English, he is able to communicate the financial goals of the
company. Under the direction of his manager, Randy Reynolds, he has created productivity efficiencies
for individual employees and teams, and financial impact on the organization.
As the right arm of Randy Reynolds, he has invested his time in continuous improvement projects, 5S
training, Kaizen events throughout production. He is well respected throughout the organization and a
role model for many employees. He was selected for a Living IT Award in 2013. He plans to continue his
education to improve himself and pass on his learnings to others.
