3. In what ways does your media product use develop or
challenge form and conventions of real media product?
• Masthead- Used in print media to identify the ownership and
management of newspapers and magazines in this case. The
masthead has 2 different colours which complements the gray
background. The strap line says the world’s best selling rap
magazine. The sentence is all in capital letters and i added some
decoretions to the text to catch the reader eye.
• Left side- The left side contains the main features article. This is
the core part of what may be inside the magazine. I used these
bright colourse so the text is more readable .
• Main image- The main image is the central part of the magazine
, is a mid-shot which helps to attract readers and is ussualy
associated with topic in the magazine. I decided to add some
effect to my picture to make it different from the one i got the
ideas from. From this you can understand that this is a teenage
magazine because older people like more serious stuff. Even the
way the model dresses gives an idea for what range of age this
magazine is. The way of dressing can also be a way to attract the
audience. Hats are a usual thing for teenage people to wear
especcialy for rapper , because makes the look more cool
therefore my model is wearing a hat.
• Bar code- shows the importance retailer, little details like makes
the magazine look more professional.
• Date/pricing- usually are there to show what time the
information has come from and the monthly issues and the
date.
4. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge
form and conventions of real media product?
I tried to make my magazine look more
professional by takeing the ideas from a popular
magazine like vibe. I decided to change the colors
of the word «contents» to give the magazine a
more trandy look. Also i wanted to change it from
the one i got the ideas and make it look more
original. The main image is on the right hand side
of my contents page as would it be on a tipical
magazine and the model is looking left. The model
look serious which give the contents page a hard
core look. However i wanted to creat a more fun
atmosphere by using different colours. The red
coloure for the page number is so the reader can
clearly see what page is each topic. The letter «R»
behind the text makes the magazine look more
interesting and as in vibe’s magazine the letter
stands for the first letter of the magazine’s name.
The strapline of the magazine has the website of
the magazine which the reader can access for more
info, also at the bottom of the picture i added the
first 2 letters of the magazine which gives the page
a much nice look. At the top of the page i added
the name of the magazine the date and the
number to make it look more like a real magazine.
The differet topics are split in section and you can
understand that by the use of different font for the
title of each topic.
5. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge
form and conventions of real media product?
The image resembles the rap genre by the way the model poses and stands in a relax and toned way. They way the model is dressed acts as a
form of advertising which would encourage people to buy the clothes the model is wearing as the would aspire to become and look like them .
People that would wear these fashionable clothes are teenage people between 16-20 years old. Teenage people nowadays always wear
headphones to listen music and sometimes they just wear them around the neck to make the look cool, therefore my model is wearing
headphones.I decided to break the story in 3 section to make it look less writing as my audience prefer more images than text. On the top right
side i decided to put the image of the artist’s cd to fill the space and inform the audience about new album coming out. The headline which is RT
stands for raptop which is the name of the magazine. I also decidet to put on the side of the picture a quote of the artist. The first letter of the
text is a bigger size as it would be for most magazines and it has a different coloure which contrasts with the rest of the text.
6. • I belive that my media product which is a
music magazine develops the codes and
conventions of real media products of the
same category rahter than challenge it . I ‘ve
developed my flat plan in order to creat a rap
magazine which hopefully would appeal to
the 16-18 year old audience. I choose the
name RAPTOP as i belive it resembles the rap
gender as rap is usually rhytmic and noisy.
In what ways does your media product use develop or
challenge form and conventions of real media product?
7. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
• The social groups that are represented in my media product
are people in the typical 16-18 year old. The majority male
readers because female are not interested in rap as much as
boys are. My magazine portrays a mixture of multi ehnic
readers. The 16-18 year old category are usually heavy
spenders e.g. Buy latest gadgets and designer clothes. This
category use their spare time surfing the web and are
normally involved in rap music. The type of people who would
buy my magazine would usually be manual workers...that type
of people that may work for the week in order to spend
money made for the weekends.
8. What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
• My media product might be distributed by Bauer Media. This is
because it reaches over 19 milion UK adults across multiple media
and adding a rap music magazine will increase the amount of adults
reading Bauer’s media products. Also because bauer media has no
rap music magazine on their market, but instead they have
magazine such as Smash Hits, Kerrang and Q. Another media
istitution that might distribute my product is IPC Media and this is
because it is UK’s leading consumer magazine and digital publisher
with a massive portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year.
Also because it has over 85 iconic print brands. I have chosen IPC
Media to distribute my magazine as it has partneship with the big
branded supermarkets, so this can widen my target audience as it
will be more freely available in the supermakets.
9. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
• I wanted to portray my target audience in a way that breaks
the classic stereotype without associating 16-18 year old with
drugs, violence , crime or swearing, because not all tennagers
and young adults are like that and i belive that my magazine
helps to aspire young artists to follow their dreams and help
others to get motivated byreading other young artist’s success
stories and leading them to become hard working and a
completly individual and different persons. This magazine is
for the people who are interested in increasing their
knowledge about rap artists.
10. How did you attract/address your
audience?
• I actract my audience in different ways. Firstly by using a
banner that says «world’s best selling rap magazine» . This is
attracts the people are interested in rap and makes you want
to buy it even more. Another thing that attracted my audience
was the fact that i used names of different rappers and this
would attract people who know the artists. The model on my
cover looks young therefor i’m trying to attract tennage. The
clothes are also a way of atracting someone’s attention. The
person could be interested in what he is wearing .
11. What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
• By doing this task i’ve learnt how to use different websites
such as Blogger and SlideShare. It was my first time using this
two new things and i always like to learn something new to
expand my knowledge. I also expanded my knowledge in
using photoshop which was one of the main program for my
magazine production. Using photoshop i learnt how to edit
images, create different effects to make the magazine look
more professional. These different technologie provide me
with various techniques and resourses that helped me to
complete my media product. I also learnd how to take
pictures propely.
12. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
• Looking back at my preliminary task, i feel that i’ve learnt a lot
from this experience . I’ve leard how to develope a magazine
from the bottom like, what social groups certain magazine
appeal to and why, how to attract a specific audience, it was
just depth of research and planning in order to make my
magazine successful. I have developed my knowledge on
