The King County Bar Association passed a resolution supporting the abolition of the death penalty in Washington State. The resolution cites that the death penalty poses an unacceptable risk of executing the innocent, is frequently applied arbitrarily and discriminatorily despite efforts to prevent this, and there is no evidence it deters serious crime more than other punishments. Currently, eight individuals are on death row in Washington after five executions since 1981 when the state enacted its death penalty statute.
