APHIAPLUS KAMILI is a five year (2011-2015) health service delivery project funded by the U.S Agency
for International Development (USAID) and implemented in Eastern and Central provinces of Kenya by
a consortium of partners led by Jhpiego, an affiliate of the Johns Hopkins University. The other partners
are AMREF, CHAK, ICAP, KRC, Land O’ Lakes, LVCT, NOPE, and PATH. The project contributes to
the USAID strategic goal of ‘Sustained improvement of health and well-being for all Kenyans’ by increasing
the use of quality health services, products and information and addressing social determinants of health
to improve the well-being of marginalized, poor and underserved populations.
APHIAPLUS KAMILI is currently recruiting experienced individuals with excellent technical skills who are
team players, dedicated, hardworking, innovative, highly motivated and willing to work in a high pressure
environment requiring multitasking abilities.
MONITORING EVALUATION & RESEARCH (MER) ASSISTANT
(2 positions- Nyandarua & Kiambu Counties)
Reporting to the MER Manager, the MER Assistant will assist in routine data collection, MER capacity
building of Ministry of Health (MOH) projects Local Implementing Partners (LIPs); provide feedback to
MOH and LIPs on data quality, completeness and use; coordinate Data Quality Audits (DQAs) with
MOHs and in all other MER activities.
Responsibilities:
Offer technical support on reporting tools, data management processes, analysis and interpretation to
LIPs to meet program requirements
Orient health facilities and LIPs on reporting requirements, indicator definitions and use of data tools
Coordinate data collection of APHIAplus KAMILI program activities to ensure it is complete and
timely
Support MOH, private sector & LIPs in information system for purposes of collecting, analysis and
synthesis of monitoring data in respective regions
Forward project data to M &E manager and provide feedback to LIPs and MOH staff on data
quality
Plan and facilitate capacity building and training LIPs in M&E through on-the-job & mentorship
Support LIP and MOH in archiving M&E guidelines, tools, data files, analysis, files and reports
Monitor LIP & MOH needs that require to be communicated to the national mechanism
Participate in routine data quality assessments within respective regions,
Perform other programmatic, technical and administrative duties when assigned.
2. Required Qualifications:
A university degree or higher diploma in social sciences or a health related field is required; and additional
relevant post graduate certifications are an added advantage
One years of work experience in monitoring and evaluation of health projects and/or HMIS
Working experience with MOH systems and personnel and in USAID-funded projects is an added
advantage
Proven computer skills in MS Office, SPSS and KePMS
Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
