MARION GERRITSEN talks to Daniel Stevens, CEO of Neotechnology about how combining his interest in both IT and retail helped
him create the perfect solution for small business.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN
NEOTECHNOLOGY?
I immigrated to Australia from
the Netherlands two years ago
after falling in love with the
country on an earlier holiday.
Growing up in Europe, I had
always harboured a desire to live
and work in a young country
where I could make a
contribution and Australia
seemed like the perfect choice.
Prior to moving to Australia, my
background had been ur retail
and IT and I was looking for an
opportunity to build on my
strengths. I had previous
experience in rolling out a
technology solution to the health
care sector in the Netherlands
and there are similarities of
simplicity and ease of use with
the SprintPOS solution. My
interest in point of sale (POS)
grew when I met the then owner
of Neotechnology and after doing
some research on the company, I
agreed to come on board as a
business analyst and consultant.
With Neotechnology I was able to
combine my Interest in retail and
IT and it seemed like a marriage
made in heaven.
WHAT MAKES YOUR POS
SOLUTIONS DIFFERENT FROM
OTHERS?
To give you a little bit of
background. Neotechnology was
then servicing medium to large
retail outlets, fuel outlets and the
hospitality sector with a high end
point of sale and inventory
control system—Amicus, which is
mostly suited to large enterprise
corporations. Most small
business owners are passionate
about their business and would
rather spend time focusing on
this passion of theirs, than
counting stock and adding up
figures. Amicus was too complex
for these small businesses and so
we came up with the SprintPOS
concept. A solution specifically
designed for small and micro
businesses that is so easy to use
it can be up and running 30
minutes after opening the box—
no computer or IT background
required. SprintPOS allows you to
use the latest technology without
having a technology background.
A solution that oilers an
innovative pay-as you-go
payment
model, which is ideal for small
businesses whether they are in
the start-up phase or just wanting
to update their old cash register.
It bundles software, hardware
and 24/7 support into one great
package without a hefty upfront
purchase price.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE
CHALLENGES FOP
NEOTECHNOLOGY?
The challenge is to reach these
busy and passionate small
business owners. We know that
SprintPOS will tree up valuable
time and allow them to
concentrate on the part of the
business they really enjoy
without making a huge capital
outlay.
WHICH INDUSTRIES DO YOU
TARGET?
By partnering with organizations
who add value to small
businesses we hope to introduce
small business to the advantages
of SprintPOS. Businesses with the
equivalent of up to five full-time
staff members who value their
time are ideal candidates for a
SprintPOS solution
It could be a gift shop, a florist or
any other small retail outlet.
DO YOU HAVE PLANS TO
BRANCH OUT INTO OTHER
SERVICE AREAS?
We plan to introduce a
hospitality version later in the
year and are always looking for
opportunities to integrate
SprintPOS with other time saving
business tools.
WHAT IS THE SECRET TO YOUR
SUCCESS?
The secret to our success is our
desire to take the IT out of POS
and give our customers a
superior and lasting customer
service experience. We are a
young company with a proven
track record in point of sale
technology (since 1996),
passionate about what we do and
determined to provide small
business with the tools to make
their lives and businesses more
sustainable. I have no regrets
about my decision to come to
Australia and am committed to
improving the small business
landscape in Australia. •
