3. Eminem- My name is
The video for this song has a very comic theme
to it which differs greatly from the convention for
rap videos, the video attempts to poke fun of the
cultural back then with references to other
artists, US presidents, TV shows and cultural
stereotypes; such as rednecks. The video also
includes elements of voyeurism as a redneck
family is watching Eminem and his exploits
through a TV screen. The video has been
critically acclaim form these references and the
accuracy of the society of the time.
5. Daft Punk – Around the world
The song is extremely repetitive but the video is
very well made. The video features different
groups of dancers dressed as swimmers,
robots, skeletons and others and each group
represents a different part of the song for
example the robots represent the lyrics; the
swimmers represent the synth sounds. It
features the dancers performing around a
circular stage. The video becomes almost
hypnotic due to the song and the dance routine.
7. Coldplay – The Scientist
The video feature the lead singer
progressing backwards through an event
that has happened in his life, him and
everything around him is in reverse yet he
seems to be lip syncing in perfect time with
the song. The video added a spin on the
conventional narrative performance that is
usually seen in music videos
9. RUN-DMC-Walk this way
This music video is widely regarded as the
one that bought hip-hop into the
mainstream. It received massive amounts of
attention on MTV and helped reignite
Aerosmith’s career. The video features
RUN-DMC artists in a battle against the
band Aerosmith in separate rooms, with the
latter breaking the wall down between them.
This is seen as a symbolic metaphor for the
breaking down of cultural and race
boundaries with in the industry.
