Toby Holt
Operations Director – hospitality
Hospitality has been in Toby’s blood since he
was a child working in the family restaurant.
Following a degree in hospitality management,
Toby went into pub management. With a
desire to spread his wings and take on a city
centre bar, he spoke to three Manchester
agencies, each one suggesting he consider
a career in hospitality recruitment. Presenting
itself as an opportunity to stay within the
hospitality sector but without the evening
and weekend work (at least the first part was
true), he made the move from operations into
consultancy. His recruitment career began
in 2003 working as a temporary hospitality
consultant, before moving into a divisional
management role. In 2008, he joined Berkeley
Scott to develop the temporary business in
the North West, since then Toby has taken
accountability for a number of locations and
currently oversees our regional offices as well
as London temps. He also co-heads up the
finance and hospitality practice. When not
doing the day job, Toby is a regional board
member for Hospitality Action our industry
benevolent charity (www.hospitalityaction.
org.uk) and keen supporter of Lifeshare a
charity that supports the needs of homeless
and vulnerable people in Greater Manchester

John Smith
Operations Director – finance
Following a degree in Molecular Biology
(& Genetics), John started his career in
pharmaceutical medical sales. Favouring the
account management and delivery side, John
made a move into recruitment, and to a niche
which he is passionate about – finance. John
joined Kellan Group in 2006 and was quickly
promoted, having had success building up
the Manchester finance market. His brand
of honest, direct and thorough recruitment
matching the culture of the business well. In
order to gain experience in a small start-up
and expand his knowledge outside of Kellan,
John took on a senior management role in a
small independent company for a couple of
years. Returning to Kellan, John initially led
the Yorkshire region before being promoted to
