As the war started in Romania, Queen Maria began her struggle/fight against
physical pain and the discouragement of soul’s wounds, with confidence in the
superior norms, saying full of faith: "God help us all - I am ready for everything
I’m asked for - but it must be for the good of my country, my dear little country
that I love. "Queen Maria was full of courage and initiative throughout the war,
her attitude being truly admirable. Every day, the Queen visited the wounded in
the hospitals and she cared for all of them with the same endless love. "I was
going to (see) the wounded every day, passing from room to room. I never left an
unanswered call, and I walked everywhere, without being discouraged by any
look, any fatigue, any long way. Queen Maria has remained for all who have seen
her, both in visits to hospitals, among hundreds of sick/patients and on the front
among the wounded soldiers, a symbol of unwavering courage.
